Hi all,
Currently ride a 98 Firestorm but am looking at swapping to either a ZRX1100 or ZRX1200R.
The swap is imminent as i have found a couple of reasonable examples and they offer a good price for the Storm.
Is there anything in particular i need to look or listen out for? Do they have any weaknesses? You know? Like the Storm's cam chain tensioners.
Cheers for any advice you can give.
Tim

Depends on the mileage and service record. There's a BIG service due at 15000 when the valve shim clearances are done. Kawa dealers can charge up to £500 for the full service which, in fairness will include checking things like the brake piston seals etc
As long as its got a service history there nothing really wrong with them that a bit of tinkering and elbow grease won't put right

Cheers for the replies. I was not aware of the service at 15k but it has done 14,500 so that would explain it seeming fairly cheap. Had a read through the other sections after posting this thread last night and coulnt find any regular issues (as you guys stated). The ZRX is on my list of bikes i have always wanted, as was the Storm, and i will have one, just maybe not the one i have been looking at Unless the dealer will do the service.

Welcome Tim ya as the others have said there is no great problems buying a second-hand ZRX, just the normal sort of stuff you look for on any Bike. You will not be sorry of getting one, and some times it's hard to get away from them. Keep us up-to-date on how things go. Even if you dont get it, your still welcome on here

Just get dealer to take the cost of a service into consideration. It's got to be worth getting a REX. many of us do all our own servicing including the BIG one and its not that difficult, only time-consuming

Well, thanks for the welcome and all the advice. I took the advice given and went back to the dealer, he would not do the service and as i am no mechanic, i am not doing it either. He would also not drop the price accordingly as we could not agree on what the service costs. Cant say i was too bothered though as this forced me to go for the second ZRX he had which is more expensive but is practically brand new, a 56 reg with 200 miles on it (obviously owned by a serious biker . It has a Blue Flame can plus the std one. As i was looking like walking away (to him) he upped the offer on the Storm by £200 as well. It is also Green, not red like the 1100 i was looking at, bonus. Guess i better change my name to summat else now. ZRXingTim maybe

'Kinnell, Tim, thats a stonking bike! Just be careful that you don't rip his arm off when you shake on the deal! Reckon he should do an oil change for you if it's just been pottering around and sat doing nothing

another REX out of the showroom and on the road, reguardless of wether or not the dealer changes the oil now, it will require one at approx 600 miles along with the filter. This should be free (well labour anyway) as its part of the Kawasaki warranty. Engine wise these things are bullietproof, unfortunately if you are a serious winter rider invest in a couple of gallons of scotoil protector otherwise it will corrode in front of your eyes. Welcome and good luck.
