Tell me about tyre wear please Last week front end slipped stayed on tho today rear slid out then grabbed just when the turtles head was about to pop out :chicken: Front tyre is egg shaped pointy oval plenty of tread Back tyre is hexagonal flat in the middle and 45degree flat each side of that if you know what i mean plenty of tread which could explain leaning over then grab anything you can add to this obliviously need new tyres and the previous owner did a fair amount of touring

Looks to me as though you might be exploring the handling of your bike just a little too enthusiastically.
Sounds like the rear tyre has squared, as long as you realise this it is fairly easy to live with, jut remember that the bike is gonna dip as it changes from the square to round profile as you lean further over. Once you are used to it its no problem.
The front end does something similar and I tend to use counter steering to aliviate the problem.
You dont actually say what make the tyres are but it sounds like they are fairly 'hard' ones if the centre has squared and youve still got plenty of tread.
If you can afford it get a new set and then as the tyres square you tend to compensate automatically.

The rear tyre on a heavy powerful bike like the ZZR is prone to wearing more in the middle than at the edges. Too much time spent upright and hard on the gas in the major cause of this. Unless you're fortunate enough to only ride on twisty roads and corner agressively, this is bound to happen. The front wears in a different way. If like me you don't tend to brake heavily before every bend then very little wear takes place in the central area of the tyre. Most of the wear occurs on the sides during cornering because of the slip angles. Riding a bike with two worn tyres like this can be a real nighmare. The rear of the bike has to lift itself off of the flat of the tyre and onto a more pointy edge. It's inclined to want to stay upright. The front on the other hand is more inclined to want to turn more quickly. The result is, you get one end of the bike arguing with the other and the results can often be a little unpredictable. New tyres will sort it. I read somewhere that if, when your tyres start to wear you add another 2psi to the recommended pressures it can help restore the profile a little. I've tried this, it's not ideal but it does help.

I had BT57's on my last ZZR...followed by Avon Azaro 2's...both very well suited to the bike, but sadly no longer available, although 020's should work fine. On the Blackbird forum, they universally recommend the Avon AV45/46ST...in fact, they praise these tyres as much as ZRXOC praise the BT020. It seems that these tyres are the absolute dogs on the Blackbird(& with over 2500 members,i guess theyve tried a few)which draws me to the conclusion that they would also work well on the ZZR. If i had a ZZR,its certainly the tyre i'd fit. With the B'bird & ZZR being such similar bikes with similar weights, they should be well suited. When i need to replace the tyres on my B'bird,im going to try them for sure. Also consider the Metzler Roadtec Z6. Its an excellent all rounder. PS: I know the ZRXOC HATE Avons! They dont appear to work very well on a ZRX(aparrently),although i havn't heard of anyone thats actually tried the AV45/46ST on a ZRX,so im thinking that they dont REALLY know what theyre like at all,but i would think that they'd be good,as they seem suited to big, heavy, sports tourers...
