Hi everybody. I just registered here today, i am 34, only passed my test in August last year though. My first bike after passing test was a VTR1000F firestorm which was written off after only 4 weeks (oops), i then bought a GSXR600 srad for a few months but sold it at xmas time as i found it too small and revvy. In January this year i bought my ZRX1200S. It is a 2003 model with 6000 miles and is totally standard. I am loving it already and have done 1000 miles in 4 weeks on it (in crap weather). I do plan to tune the engine and make the bike more original to me than it is now. However due to other commitments i am on a low budget! The first thing i want to change is the end can, as i sometimes have to check the engine is still running its so quiet! I have read that other bikes such as Bandit 1200's have the same exhaust fittings as my bike? is this true? and has anyone a complete list of bikes that will fit the ZRX12? as on ebay there are not many options if you look for a ZRX but Bandits have loads on there! Many thanks in advance for any help received!

Welcome to the :zrxuk: from it's Canadian Contingent. Too bad about the Firestorm - that's a pretty big bike to start with, but glad you've found your way to one of the best all-round bikes made - the REX! Not sure that replacing the stock REX can with another stock Bandit can will do much in the sound department. There are bolt on cans available that will increase the noise level, but unless you dump the stock headers for an aftermarket set, you'll not see much, if any performance improvement. A bolt on can will likely be about 1/2 the weight of the stock can, so you'll get some weight reduction along with the added decibels. Read through the site and you'll see that there are lots of mods that make quite impressive improvements to the REX, whether you want to tour, race, or just BLING it to the "nth" degree.

Thanks for the info Lightspeed. I didn't mean replacing with a stock Bandit can, but replacing with an aftermarket race can off a bandit 12? i had heard that the bolt holes are the same, so i could buy say an 'art' can off a Bandit and stick it on the Rex?

Two bits of info you'd need to confirm. 1) the Bandit can has the same bolt pattern as the REX can. 2) the hanger for the Bandit can will fit the REX properly. (there are some cans that have the same bolt pattern, but the angle off the header is different and the hanger won't work properly)
I have an Akrapovic system, and haven't checked out bolt on cans, but I know that a number of folks here have swapped out the stock can for an aftermarket one - and they are pretty commonly available. Hopefully someone who knows more about the specifics of can matches will be along shortly to give you the inside scoop.

Welcome to the site.
My advice would be don't muck about with aftermarket cans. A complete waste of money IMHO.
Apart from noise they do nothing to improve your stock bike. If you want better performance best save your pennies for a full system.
The restriction is in the headers, everybody knows that.

As Phoeinx says just changing the can will not give you any improved performance so a full system is needed ( of course cost loads) but alot of us have gone the cheaper option on just end cans , they sound alot better. Bikesnoopy will be along with your answer I am sure soon. Post some pics up.

Thanks for all your replies. Yeah i would like a full system and hopefully its something that i will have one day, but at the moment i can't afford one and i would be happy just getting a sweet deep throb from the engine instead of the whisper i have at the moment. The bike looks the part, but just doesn't do itself justice in the noise department! For now the standard (restrictive) performance is plenty for me, i am not skilled enough just yet to need more performance, but i do like a nice sounding bike! I had a carbon remus can on my Gixxer6 and it sounded really nice, and also i have a friend who has a Blue flame twin port evo can that sounds the dogs. Second hand off ebay is what i'm looking for
