When riding in the cold weather recently I have noticed that the gear lever moves slowly and stiffly for the first ten miles or so until the engine gets properly warm. This can be a bit of a distraction and has caused the occasional false neutral. What might be the problem and is it likely to get much worse. I hardly rode the Rex last winter but seem to remember experiencing this problem before at some time. It's been fine all summer, the bike that is, not the weather btw. Once the motor is warm everything is fine so I'm guessing this is some kind of lubrication or binding seal type of problem. Oil is of course changed at regular intervals. Any ideas?

had this snag with mine a while back, turned out to be lack of lubrication on the gearchange mechanism. Had to strip it down clean and grease,

You've told me that before, when am I gonna learn. In the meantime I'll just have to try and grease all the linkages and hope that works.

S'OK Given the weather over there, Grem's probably got until spring to find it.

Not so. I've got until Thursday to move the bike into temporary storage in my Mothers garage and then hopefully over the weekend move it again to its new home. I'm hoping for a big enough window in the weather to allow me to do this without getting either (a) soaking wet or (b) freezing cold or any possible combination of (a) + (b). Yes I have already packed my grease away but still have access to all my tools. For the relatively short distance involved in achieving the above I'm hoping to free it up with a bit of WD40 and sort it properly later. The pixies are gonna have to wait for their beer a while longer too.
