Hi Chaps, Well here it is, 400 miles into my ZRX ownership and i've already started to think about modding it Don't worry it's nothing too serious! i'm going to carry out an oil and filter service on it, now i know from previous vehicles oil has always been a fantastic cause for debate and i guess this is no different. There's always "what it says in the manual" and what people prefer to use, so, what shall i use guv? Secondly on my quest for service kits on eBay i came accross 4 x K&N filters for it. I use one on my landy which needs no fuelling adjustments, two on my TR7 which i had to put richer needles in to compensate and i'd imagine the kwaker will be the same. Will it need re-jetting if i fit them or does the ZRX run sufficiently rich that it's not needed? Thirdly i want to grease up the swing arm, will the usual castrol LM grease be good enough or is there some super duper grease which everybody uses? is there a grease nipple or do i have to remove things to repack it? Fouthly i've read on here that Kawasaki were very sparing with the lube on these (all?) bikes. Where should i pay particular attention to and is there any tips when gaining access to these areas? This is all new territory to me! Many thanks, Rob.

With pod filters you will need to re-jet the carbs to suit definately. A worthwhile mod tho'. If you junk the highly restrictive stock headers as well you will gain an easy 20bhp increase in power at the wheel. Probably more importantly the area under the curve is greater throughout the full range.

Any grease is better than Kawasaki grease. I managed to pump a full gun full into the swinger and still didn't see it coming past the seals. You might want to think about regreasing the headstock bearings as well.
10W-40 semi-skinned oil. I use Halfords own brand
You will need to re-jet with pods as Phoe says. Not much point if you are keeping the stock headers

Thanks for the info chaps. i've found the grease nipple on the swingarm and i'm just waiting for the grease to turn up now.
As far as manifolds go they look pretty efficient, in what way are they restrictive? are the headstock bearings just a case of unbolting a few bits and repacking them or am i looking at taking the whole front end off?
Thanks,
Rob.

If you have the stock headers, they are double skinned so the inner bore is actually quite small in diameter.

Yup, standard headers. I thought the only double skinned exhaust pipes were for woodburners! Well i never. Makes perfect sense now Can't find my Haynes manual now, in fact i can't be sure i actually bought one. it's all going wrong and it's only Tuesday. Thanks guys! Rob.

Pretty sure you won't find your Haynes for it cus they never made one
Little point in increasing what goes in if it can't get out, a bit like trying to run a marathon breathing through a straw!!

I have no idea why i thought i bought a Haynes manual for it. Perhaps it's habit, any new motoring purchase usually follows with the obligatory haynes manual off of ebay. I did find the one for my GP100, just gotta find the bike now! Anyway......
My Lithium grease turned up today, 3/4 of a tube went into that swing arm before pushing past the seals. The grease pushed its way out around the stainless (chrome?) allen bolt on one side but not the other where it chose instead to push its way between the bearing and the frame. I mopped up the excess, could be a nasty accident waiting to happen otherwise!
What i did notice was incredibly little resistance as the swing arm was loaded up with grease and the ease at which it pushed past the seals. Does that sound normal? Normally when i grease things up there's a noticable firming up of the grease gun pump as the grease tries to get past the seals.
I was going to take her out for a blast but the wife decided i was going round her mates to look at her electrics. I'm sure that wasn't mentioned in the vows.
Ah, just remembered, Headstock bearings...... Is there a "how to" on here on how to grease em up, i did look but couldn't find anything. Looks like i'm going to have to get a bike jack! Cheers,
Rob.

Just put new ss headers on my 1100... ;D ;D does she fly now or what!! Very worthwhile investment imo, as it looks better with ss headers and sounds better as there isn't any gaping holes in it making her blow
