Wouldn't the oil be milky looking if the head gasket was allowing water into the oil ?

My Rovers head gasket must've started to go like that. I'd had a mysterious coolant leak for months and was never able to find out where from. There was never any trace of water in the oil. I feared the worst at that point, knowing that the Rover 75 1.8 is prone to head gasket failure. Sure enough, it let go in spectacular fashion just as the last big freeze hit us. On the bright side, I didn't have to suffer driving in those conditions 'cos I didn't have a car. £650 quid later and it's all fixed - as good as new. Rex's winter mods will have to wait 'till next winter now though. :broke: Still, :zzzz: none of my idle armblings are helping this thread along any are they? Throughout all of the above there was never any smoke from the exhaust on the car, neither does a blown head gasket explain fuel in the cylinders or a misfire probably due to flooding. I'd go along with checking float valves and levels before digging any deeper into the motor.

Oops! suitably chastised . If there's fuel coming out of the carbs then it's got to be badly set float levels or float needles not seating.....I think
