Hi there, I have just joined this site and would like a bit of advice, I am looking at getting a ZRX and wondered if there is much real world difference between the 11 and 12. I know the bhp is down, but I'm not after chasing mates at 150+ anymore, and just need something for a bit of fun and some 2 up riding to give my 900r's a bit of an easier life now they are getting on.
Thanks in anticipation.
Ian

Hi Ian and welcome to the :zrxuk: on club rideouts there is no real difference in the performace of the bikes. The only major diffference IMHO is between the 12S and 12R and that is only really high speed touring, due to the better wind protection of the S.

Welcome to :zrxuk: , mate
Always a big debate amongst owners! The simple answer is that both the 1100 and the 1200's have "enough" power for all you need
the 12 has more low down torque and a bit more power. The 1200S has superior weather protection, but not much choice in colour schemes
The 1100's are usually a bit older and therefore can be cheaper. About the same weight and have almost identical dimensions. The beauty of the 11 is that there are lots of parts available to make the beast run faster. ZZR1100D cams will transform it, especially if you fit a proper aftermarket exhaust and headers (beat you to it, phoenix)
Bikesnoopy had one of the best looking Rex's on here recently and that was a 1100.

Welcome to the :zrxuk: from the contingent. Which ever you acquire, you'll be happy. REXes are the latest "gee whiz" sharpie, but man, they'll do almost anything ya want. Just guard your plastic if you decide to start "personalizing" your ride, as there are folks here who'll sadly lead you astray and destroy your credit rating. ;D Pipe and jets is a good performance starter for either, and a good suspension set up will improve the stock suspension markedly. But then, just a wee bit more $$ and you could get Ohlins, light wheels, aftermarket rad, rearsets, heated grips, a different windscreen, a different seat, some luggage, LED dash lights, upgraded HID or high output headlights, trick signal lights, a bobbed rear fender, an rear wheel hugger, custom paint, an undertray, or even a mascot * for those that are into that sort of stuff. . . And that's just the first order sheet ;D Enjoy whatever ya find, and your welcome here regardless of what ya ride (well most are anyway )

Welcome to :uk: Both bikes have loads of character, and like Les said, no real difference on club rideouts, unless you decide to buy the 400 Then its loads more fun ;D Good luck on your search fella, and you're more than welcome on here whatever bike you get

Thanks guys for the info, initially I was looking for a 1200R, but as it happens there seem to be more 1100's about at the moment and I just wondered what the difference was. Now I know that if a good low mileage 1100 comes up I can give it some consideration At the moment I have a 1984 GPZ900R A1 in fairly standard condition which I don't want to ride too much, and an '87 900R A3 which is a long term project which hopefully will have a GPZ1000RX engine fitted and later running gear off a zzr600, so I need something practical, fun and good looking to boot, and looks like it's a ZRX Thanks again, and I will let you know when something turns up. Ian

Red, you dont need tae mod it if you dont want to, it runs fine as it is. Only thing ave done is a Scorpion end can (like the noise) an braided brakelines wae sintered pads. An thats it. Have polished nothing, use tourin tyres (Pirelli Diablos) an it works well. Oops bletherin again, sorry.

I rekon Kawasaki intended the bike to be a blank canvass to be be modded. Thats why it comes with a load of cheap crap as OE equipment.

Hi Red and welcome to the site. I bought the 1200R cause i was fortunate enouth to be able to buy new and the 1200R was all that was available. If anything was to happen to her i'd have an 1100 without even thinking about it, to be honest i've never had her over 130, i just can't hold on with the wind buffeting, but then i'm quite a slim built bloke anyway (musles what are they?) so i would'nt worry about the bhp being down a bit. On the plus side the 1100 is sometimes regarded as "The Legend" of the ZRX as she was the first one. If your planning two up touring don't dismis the S, another great bike which a lot of the guys on here run with the benefit of a fairing (just not my thing personally). Loads of options on luggage systems and some handy sensible mods like footpeg extenders (just bought a set of these from wardourdrive on here) so my missus does'nt have her knees up round my earoles on long runs. good luck
