I've no doubt that with the superiority of the Rex and its riders over some of the numptys out there on their sportsbikes we've all got funny tales to tell of the occasions when pocket rockets musteriously get smaller in our mirrors.
This one happened last Summer while Gremlin, Lady Rexer and Gibbo were off on a days rideout.
We hadn't gone far from home before we got to a twisty uphill stretch after right turn at a set of traffic lights which also has double white lines along its full length.
We were first away from the lights and as I looked over my shoulder after making the right turn I saw a Bandit at the back of the queue. Halfway up the hill, a glance in the mirror tells me that Bandit must have jumped the lights to follow us like that.
Another glance in the mirror at the top of the hill tells me that there's been some cheating going on (remember double whites) and he's now behind Gibbo.
The double whites go on for another 1/2 mile or so until just after a long sweeping right hander when the road straightens out for a bit.
Guess where Bandit overtook us?
Correct, just as the road straightens out, cheeky young whippersnapper.
Me and Gibbo are right at the beginning of what we know is going to be a 300+ mile ride so why bother playing silly games at this stage?
Besides, this road, we know the road gets really twisty and quite technical in a couple of miles so we know we'll catch him there.
Sure enough, we do and without even trying. This guy is obviously blisteringly quick in a straight line but hasn't the first clue about how to set a bike up for a corner.
So, I'm now having to slow my pace for these twistys while Bandit makes a hash of it in front of me and all the while, I'm getting closer and hounding him just a little more.
Eventually, his ride goes completely to pieces and he can't even ride the short straight bits in a straight line as he's too busy watching a big blue Rex in his mirrors. ;D
I could have easily overtaken him at any time with the power advantage I have but it was far more fun making him think he was winning and watching him (and his bike) squirm at the same time.
So I waited until the most difficult turn of the lot (blind righthander, falling downhill), and overtook him on that.
Poor old Gibbo was in hysterics at our stop later. :rotf:
