When do points on your licence come off...speeding in particular...oh...and driving without due care... It it timed from the date of the offence,or is it the date that they put the points on your licence???

I think they are on your licence for 4 years from conviction but only valid for 3 years. Could be wrong tho'

It should be from the date of the offence. 3 years for speeding. The points, although no longer in effect after 3 years will remain on your licence for a further 2. That I believe is how the insurers manage to hike your premiums for 5 years after an SP30.

Hmmm. When i got my BIG speeding offence(which i got downgraded from an instant ban to 4 points,£230 & a driving without due care...),the offence took place in August 2003,but i didnt get my points/fine until Feb 2004. Maybe i'll lose 4 of my points this August then. . . ?

Ive still not heard from that one Grem... The 14 days were up yesterday & there was nowt in the post this morning. With 10 points already,im banned if it does come..... I suppose riding a bike like the Blackbird isnt ideal when youve got 10 points on your licence. . .

Its from the date they go on your licence. Your insurers may well read it that way but I'm sure that in law it's from the date of the offence. I got done for speeding (on a 400) years ago, before I'd passed my bike test. :ups: I'd changed address three times, going into different police authority areas in the process before they caught up with me nearly 2 years later. (by which time I'd passed my bike test). I got off with the charges of no licence or insurance because of that fact, even though at the time of the offence I was unlicenced and therefore uninsured. I still took the rap for speeding though but in those days it was only points for 2 years. Never got points on my licence 'cos the two years had expired and only paid a £60 fine. His worship had obviously got his leg over the night before and was in a good mood. ;D

Well I disagree otherwise the date of the offence would be put on the licence .

Some bugger's moved the goalposts then. My last speeding offence shows up as 20/08/02 on my licence which is the correct date. I still have one of the old paper licences. Does tht make a difference?
