why are there different spec tires on the back for R & S models? the S takes a ROAD ATTACK the R takes a ROAD ATTACK "B" i believe the S is only 11lbs heavier sure it's canterlevered weight on the other end of the bike but you wouldn't think it would be significant enough to warrant a different tire is the geometry different? different rake, swingarm pivot height PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME as i don't think the "B" rear tire is available over here my youngest cousin (bikes in his blood, bet he gets another when his girls grow up) is visiting me from Maesteg 2nd week of august don't you guys get cheap tires from Wales he might have more baggage than he was planning on!! but that's a kinda stupid option if you get 2 rears outta a front he'd have to bring both so i need to know the problem with putting an S tire on an R the "C" tire is available here also that's the one you stick on a big BOXER maybe that's an option WHO KNOWS?

1200 R & S share the same chassis so no difference there. S is only 11lbs heavier. then again I'm sure that there's more than an 11lb difference in weight betwwen the lightest and heaviest ZRX riders, so effectively no difference there either. Handbook does specify different BT020 tyres for the two models but having tried R tyres on my S, no difference there either. I think it'd take a good rider in extreme conditions to really tell the difference between those tyres so go with what you feel most comfortable with. I'm currently using Michellin Macadam 100x which I find for my own personal riding style far more suitable than the 020s for example. Not saying that they ARE better tyres they just feel that way.

Spent some time on the Conti site and looking through their Technical Manual.
The Manual (pgs 75 and 75) specifies the identical tires for the naked ZRX1200, the ZRX1200R and the ZRX1200S.
Front 120/70 ZR17 (58W)TL Rear 180/55 ZR17 (73W)TL
The numerical designation in the brackets indicates rated load capacity. 58 = 236kg and 73 = 365kg.
The "W" designation in the brackets is a rating for speeds in excess of 270kph (167mph)
The Technical Manual lists Conti RoadAttack front tires with a "C" or a "Z" letter following the listing and it lists the rear tires with a "B" or a "C".
I have been unable to find any reference to what those last letter designations mean. There is a reference note 2 that is listed for the Conti Road Attacks on any version of the REX which states:
"Approval available from the motorcycle manufacturer or Continental Motorcycle Tires, please be aware that there could be different specifications (eg. Continental RoadAttack C)"
I can find no information on what the "C", or the "B" or "Z" reference elsewhere in the manual means.
So, the technical manual has the same note for Conti RoadAttacks for all three models of the REX (naked, R and S).
I suspect that there is, in reality, no technical difference between the listed tires for any of the REX models. The note seems to refer to some other approval, but with no additional information available. I know that when I ordered my RoadAttacks, there was no choice of any "B","C", or "Z" versions of that tire.

If it's the same as the differences between Bridgestones recomendations for the R and the S then the difference is a slight profile change in the carcase of the tyre. That's probably not enough of a difference for most of us to notice as these tyres are designed by computer. The bikes themselves are ridden by humans. My tyre dealer at the time of asking was a very knowledgeable bloke on the subject of tyres and was capable of bending your ears for hours on the subject.

no response from conti UK (diolch yn fawr boyos) ;D so i e-mailed the Fatherland & just received this ;D "dear mr thomas the "B" is only a different name for the homologation in germany. you do not need the "B" spec. mit den besten gruessen/best regards" does this mean you only need a "B" spec rear tire if your sashaying your ZRX1200R out of the closet with your jackboots on! isn't that profiling!!! & howd' they know i'm straight!!!!!

I'm so thrilled Jeff went into Shrlock mode AFTER I bought my Road Attacks. I don't know about the B designation Jeff, and did not read about it in reviews: www.canyonchasers.net/reviews/accessories/road-attack.phpEverything I read said that these tires gripped like mad, even on track days and in the wet, but got great milage. I just put a standard Road Attacks ith 180's on the back (to match my wider modded rims. I'll let you know how they work after I take'r to the track More pressing problem is that my front wheel bearing is seized!! Help Jeff!!!!! Dale

Figured the wheel bearing was funny when putting the wheel back on. I can't see any sign of wear, so don't know how long it's been like this.
