Strange things them canchain tensioners. About 15000 miles ago mine was rattling like it was trying to escape and it's never been quiet, even from new. Got a little quieter when warm but only marginally. I checked the tensioner and there was nothing wrong with it One cold winter morning I fired the bike up but forgot to use the choke so it stalled immediately.........with an expensive sounding metallic clunk sound. It's been fine ever since, one of the quietest, smoothest Rex engines there is. See if you can explain that, 'cos I cant.

Yes it was worryingly enough and I know what you're thinking.
I've had both the clutch and alternator covers off since then and no damage done.

I've had both the clutch and alternator covers off since then and no damage done. a friend of mine had to fix a noisy cam-chain on a concourse under warranty. a dolt of a mechanic had lost a shim & damaged the sprocket & chain. post script gracias

Not even I'm careless enough to drop a shim down there and even if I was I'd be careful enough to find it before ANYTHING moved.
