Just returned from a blast to sunny skegness and noticed both there and back that my temp gauge didn't seem to move much. so questions: 1. Is this normal? 2. If its not normal what should I be checking? To be honest I havn't checked my fluid levels apart from oil for a couple of weeks and know I should be picked with a sharp stick but will be checking this week.

Temp gauge? Wots one of them then...? Oh,you got an "S" aincha! We dont get posh things like that on an "R". What we do is wait till the fan cuts in & blows burning hot air onto your legs. You know its a bit warm then. . .

Seriously. . . that would mean that the thermostat is working correctly & things are normal. . .

Mine normally sits just above the cold section and dont move, the only time it reads any higher is if I am caught in slow moving traffic for a long period, I have only ever heard the rad fan cut in twice, and the first time was after owing the bike for about 8 months, so therefore broke into a panic about the stange noise and vibration.

For a long while mine never moved off the cold side, even though the fan cut in and out in the summer/traffic ect.
but the last time i took the tank off, the thermostat is right behind the head stock, i just gave the wire a bit of a fiddle and it's worked ever since then, so maybe it's just a lose connection. It was just the gauge that wasn't working.

Michaelzrx, thanks for that, maybe I need to get adventurous and remove the tank and have a fiddle. What a scary prospect.

Yup, that all sounds very familiar. I was a little alarmed over the weekend to see my temp gauge as far as halfway up the scale but then realised that it's not too often I ever get stuck in slow moving traffic.
