This is really a new thread as original "K&Ns and Dynojet Worth It?" has dried up and the fault is now different.
As before bike fitted with K&Ns, Dynojet Stage 3 and Akropovic - originally fault felt like missing/backfiring below 3k revs - this is true on the road.
In the garage tickover misses a beat every few seconds as you raise the revs this is apparent throughout - trouble is this is masked above 4k by noise from zorst but with ear defenders on it is there all the time.
Blipping the throttle also occasionally causes a misfire as the revs come down.
Pulled the plugs and they are all light brown - identical. All needles are set the same on 4th notch from top? Pilot screw settings are 1and a half turns out. As per mister Dynojets script.
I have to conclude that mixture wise things are pretty close to right although a tad richer would not do any harm.
Maybe it is an ignition fault/carb balance perhaps even a plug fault?

Well that's good news anyway. I read the post title and thought that you meant 'missing', as in gone, disappeared, no longer there, stolen etc.............. What sounds like an ignition problem is minor in comparison to that. Revove the plug leads one at a time with the motor running (Careful you don't get electrocuted and short out yer pacemaker) and see if that makes any difference. That may possibley identify which plug is causing the misfire. Then check all the relative connections to that plug and/or try changing the plug itself. If you have the tools and equipment then checking and adjusting carb balance is a simple DIY job and is always worth doing. For what dealers charge for balancing carbs, it may well be worthwhile investing in a set of vacum gauges anyway. Getting yer mates to chip in with the cost of the gauges and sharing them is the best option. It's not the kind of equipment used on a weekly basis but invaluable when you have access to a set.

I agree my title was misleading but then again it di prompt conversation.
Pulling a plug cap, I would expect to show up worse but I do know where you are coming from for that occasion when it could be running on 3.
It can only improve matters having a completely balanced set of carbs.
Do you know whether there were any major model changes between 2001 and 2003? Mine is a 2004 reg but I am sure that it is a 2003 model. I guess I am talking CDI, CARBS etc not just colour etc.
Hopefully it is just a plug.
Cheers

Did the Dyno operator not sort this out for you when you had it all set up???

There were no model changes between 2001 & 2003 apart from colour schemes.
Next major change was 2004 but again these were mainly cosmetic. There was a tweak to the suspension here and there. Carbs were different too but this I believe was to comply with emissions regs more than enhance performance.
It's easy to tell, even from a distance. If yours is a 2003 as it'll have black headers and dowpipes. 2004 saw the introduction of the sexy nickel plated items. :slobr:

I bought the bike with all the gear mentioned fitted so had no input into set up, unfortunately.
They told me that the exhaust is a full Akropovic but now you mention the 2004 exhaust revision? Was the 2004 can a bolt on type or slip-on?

Bolt-on, same as the earlier models.

Thanks, then my exhaust is a full Akropovic which is cluttered in springs and not much of a challenge for anybody wanting to steal - will not be parking it anywhere in a hurry.
I take it that these modifications are not that popular as there has not been a huge queue of people to advise on their experience with it - or- they had their bikes set up by somebody else - dyno types. I do not think there is a huge problem with this bike certainly mixture must be pretty close to spot on.
New plugs arriving soon.
