Any you guys got any experience with scotoilers, i have heard that they are messy but i have the misfortune of passing a quarry on my commute to and from work so if its not mud all over the road its sand, gives me the hump like you wouldn't believe esp as its literally only for a couple of hundred yards What do ya think good idea or not? I no i will still have to clean the chain more regularly than most but i figure at least it will stay lubed. cheers Pip

Not, got a scotoiler on the majestic, but had one on the two bikes before, (in fact it was the same one). They are no messier IMHO than chain lub if set up right, and do increase chain life. The only reason I aint got one on the majestic is I love polishing the chain, although I do draw the line at using the wifes toothbrush, (Floog )

.....used it again yesterday to do the sprocket... BIG vote in favour of Scottoilers I've used them on all my bikes except the GT's which were shafties.....and that would be silly now wouldn't it I will be fitting one to my Rex as soon as MRS FLOOG has authorised the release of funds Very easy to use and you can regulate the amount of drops so you can increase and decrease as required. Chain life vastly increased and so much less hassle than lubing yourself. Oil costs a fiver a go and last a fair while, and parts are easy to get if you need them I recommend spending an extra 20 notes on a dual injector which, as the name suggests, runs a feeder tube on both sides of the chain and proved very very effective on my last bike. ****ADVICE....when brand new, used black PVC tape to tape the oil feed tube that drips oil onto the chain, to it's housing because this is a known weak spot and the tubes drop out....I lost 2 before the tape trick halted the problem****

;D I had one fitted before I collected the REX. Certainlyu no messier than lube from a can. Even though I check the chain weekly I have not had to make any adjustments yet and I have had the REX since Feb.

I have noticed that since washing the rex that there appears to be alot of crap in the swing arm . I can only presume this is from the Scottoiler. Has anyone else seen this with a Scottoiler fitted??

Yep. What setting have you got the flow on Is it a dual injector or single, as that makes a difference You can experiment by taking it down a notch or two if a little too much oily crud is splashing up. Check your tyre sidewalls as well, you shouldn't see any oil splashes there-or the setting is too high The oily residue cleans off easily enough so in itself is nothing to worry about. On my last bike I set it to about 4 I think, even though they say on average about 6 in the booklet If I remember correctly. In the hot sun, the oil thins and flows thinner and faster, so you can adjust for that-have a play with the settings, so long as the chain is oiled adequately, keep the setting as low as poss I HAVE TO get one for the Rex soon, magic little bits of kit

TOP TIP that I will have to check tomorrow. When it was fitted by the garage in Feb it was bleeding freezing so now with the hotter weather it would explain alot. You are right it does clean off easily. I agree it is an excellent piece of kit and everyone should get one. BTW it is a single feed.

I wholeheartedly recommend replacing the single injector for a dual one. £19.99 and dead easy to fit (even I managed ), and obviously both sides of the chain are looked after. *****Don't forget. Single or dual, tape the thin injector tube that dispense the oil onto the chain, to the black body it fits into. The tubes are a known weakspot and can easily fall out. A minute with some black electrical tape will save any problems. Dry the tube and housing carefully first so the tape fits******

Tapeing the line in seems like good advice Floog. The last thing you want is some do-dad or gizmo spewing out lubricant on your rear wheel/tire
