I feel damn stupid having to seek help on this ......but if I can't ask you guy's and gal's, then who CAN I ask Shocks. 'C' spanner. I cannot make the ring turn either way. Is there a knack ie engage and push down then turn.... The owners book and manual are useless. The spanner just falls out and it will not make the ring turn :hair: What is the base setting, and which way do you turn to make stiffer as mine seems far too soft and bouncy especially two up I am a knob jockey....but at least I admit it.....HELP

Just settled down in the garage with my calm head on. Switched on the radio and contemplated my navel for a moment. Thoughts collected, breathed in and engaged 'C' spanner...... Fecking nothing!!!! It will not budge and in fact feels like the shock is starting to twist I'm pulling so hard.....I want my mummy..... not playing anymore now...

It's rubber mounted top and bottom so you may feel and even see a bit of movement. Don't worry about it. You can help avoid some of the movement by perhaps gripping the reservoir with your spare hand while turning the C spanner. A word of advice to the inexperienced. Watch yer knuckles when you do move the collar. It's liable to drop into that next slot around with quite a snap and if you're not careful, the spanner can slip off and you end up grazing knuckles on something. Both shocks are the same and preload adjusters require turning in the same direction on both sides. Viewed from above, clockwise (as far as I can recall from sitting here) should make them firmer. Look at the little ramps on the collar you're trying to turn. You need to be going uphill for firmer springs.

Floog, as it happens I adusted mine only yesterday in preparation for a longish two up journey. You need to move them uphill to push the springs down(thereby tightening them up). (hows that for explaining in laymans). They are a bitch to move, the spanner is made of chocolate and your tightening a spring. The easiest was is to use some form of fulcrum, ie a 22 mm rind spanner. I moved mine one notch, and downgraded the adjuster from 4 to 3. I run two up a fair amount so tend to keep the back end stiffer anyway, if this is the first time you are adjusting, may i recommend you start with two notches. P.S. The term chocolate used in this post is a technical one for crap metal and therefore no you cannot eat it.

EUREKA!! :ele: :chicken: :ele: :chicken: :ele: :chicken: :ele: :chicken: :ele: :chicken: Managed to do it at last!! I watched the bloody German creep into the semi's on penalties YET AGAIN.... and was so angry I thought I'd go and take it out on my suspension One final go. I realised what I was doing wrong. I was tackling the right hand shock and the 'C' spanner hits the rear pillion peg hanger so it cannot turn the adjuster ring The minute I put the spanner on the inside of the ring just above the hugger....BINGO The left hand shock is easy peasy....just wish I'd tried that one first. For the record, I was on the 3rd ramp setting of 5 and for me it was not stiff enough. I have now gone to the 4th ramp which should help. I can now experiment a bit more with the other twiddly things......deep joy

I use the 3rd "ramp" for solo & the 4th for two up... Just a thought. When you were trying to adjust them, did you fit some kind of extension onto the C spanner to give you more leverage? It makes the job so much easier if you do
