I have just returned to work after a couple of days off unwell ....I start the drive home and at Ruxley Manor roundabout I am taken out by a 17 year old spotty learner oik in a Yaris!! I blame them, whilst The mouthy driving instructor claims it's all my fault and the poor driver is white as a sheep and has probably been put off driving for life!! It's my first crash on 2 or 4 wheels in over twenty years The only good news....it was in my car and not on my beloved Rex I am unhurt and in one piece, as are the other participents in this exciting adventure!! Luckily I could still drive it home and my Insurance company (Churchill) were superb. I have NCD protected on fully comp so my premiums won't rise. The bad news.....I now have to take an annual leave day off work tomorrow to wait for the company to take my car away and assess the damage....and pray they don't write it off or I'm in the proverbial . If they do the usual knock-for-knock...it'll cost me £150 EXCESS. Me thinks I will clean my Rex whilst on my day off tomorrow....I am sure there must be some dirt on it somewhere....

....I am sure there must be some dirt on it somewhere.... That i dought very much. But glad you're OK, what a Tw*t of a driving instructor, doesn't he know that you should never start blaming people who's fault it is, thats the insurance company's job/or police. and you'll wear the metal thin if you rub it much more.

Just needs a bit a of T-Cut and polish...................... if you've got any left. Probably the same one I met a few years back. A friends young daughter, strapped into a child seat, somehow managed to open the right hand rear door as I was exiting an island. No choice but to make an emergency stop. Very nearly got tail ended by the learner driver following me. Guess whose fault that was? ...and as for nearly being run over by a learner driver reversing round a corner, while the instructor was busy on his mobile phone, that just beggars beleif!!!

So there we have it, the joys of motoring come to the FLOOG household!! Just had a phone call from the assessor. Because the sills on my car are part of the structure of the car, even trying to factor in a cut and weld job to save costs.....it'll cost £2700+ to repair. The assessor from Del Monte, he say NO . Book value of the car is about £1185. So they have written it off. I have no car, now have to try and persue getting a hire car, and still have to send all the details in to fight the berk who wrecked my car and blames me!! Not worth buying back after I spoke to the mechanic as the costs outweigh what I'll get by so much, and I don't have the readies anyway.....I will get some prices from Auto trader and try to get some more for mine by rejecting the first offer. MRS FLOOG has already offered me her car and she will get the bus to work......which is lovely but makes me feel so bad as it's no little inconvenience to her. We will now have to have only one car between us until I can rob a bank, invent a money tree, learn how to hotwire and nick one off the forecourt or win the lottery!! At the end of the day I've lost a great little car that I've had from new and am screwed because of some numpty learner.....can you tell I'm not a happy bunny!!

Well it's now Friday and I have had to take 3 days annual leave off from work as I cannot get there without a car (SSShhhh, don't mention the Rex) This morning I received a hire car from my insurers and have opted to pay £1.50 per day accident & collision waiver up to a maximum of £40 regardless how long I have it. Car hire costs will be charged to the knob end who hit me :fist: Other than that there was a £100 excess on damage and I thought that a little risky where I park at work :surrender: This is all new to me. When the forms come through I can claim for things apparently.. .......I plan to claim for the 3 work days I lost and had to take as holiday and for subsequent travel costs of getting around....does anyone know of anything else I could claim for? Phone calls? I am really not sure of all this. The first settlement figure for my car is too low, so I have sent that back and stated my case for more. I figured I'm in a good position as the hire car is costing less per day than the cost of travel to work, so it can drag on if necessary. Any tips or advice on getting the maximum I can back would be appreciated...after all, I've lost my car and every penny will now count :violin: Thanks
