Ward, I have an Advent laptop, model number 7081, It has 256 meg of ram and an Intel Celeron M processor 1.3GHz. Sort of looked at the PC world website an none were listed. It is a single mem chip with no spare mem slots. an runs XPhttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v382/ZRXgremlin/Cache/2top/dunno.gif[/IMG] :sunny: Oh an the thing keeps hangin if you try to do more than 1 thing at a time.

Upgrading the RAM is possible and probably much easier than dealing with the cache that is built into the processor.
Just be aware that most laptops use proprietory memory, so it will likely be a bit more expensive to upgrade than simply dropping down to the local computer store and picking up a 1 GB memory SIMM.

I find a quick visit to www.crucial.com/uk usually works for some good memory upgrade. It will even tell you what you have installed and what you can put in a usually a fraction of the cost of OEM memory.

If you click scan my system it should do it all for you

Overclocking a CPU is a delicate dance between extracting a few more cycles and cooking the chip. Son runs most of his computers overclocked but has resorted to additional cooling tricks ranging from extra/upgraded fans all the way to high tech gear that water cools the chip. Doesn't take much overclocking to add a LOT of heat, and that will certainly kill a chip - fast.

Brakey, if you want me to get a 1Gb memory chip for you, let me know and I will post it on to you. You can't fanny about with the cache memory - it's built into the processor!
256Mb is only just enough RAM to run Windows XP. No wonder its crawling along. Extra memory will make a big difference in your case
