Just like to say Hi, just new to the site and already need help. I own a zrx1100 and the bike will not rev past 6000rpm, it just goes onto 3 cylinders. I think its the ecu and would like to know if anyone has had similer problems.

Hi and welcome. Don't think it's the ECU. The coil supplying no 3 cylinder also supplies no 2 on a wasted spark basis, so if the spark faisl on one, it fails on both.
More than likely to be a plug problem. Take off the tank and the plug leads and make sure the tunnels are clear and dry. Fix soem new plugs and I bet it goes OK

Replaced all plugs, swapped coils over and still the same. I have noticed the on 1&4 cylinders the down pipes glowing red and 2&3 alot cooler. I have also had the carbs in bits to clean them.

I wonder if nos 2 and 3 are firing at all? is it not just heat soak that makes them appear warm. Are you in aposition to check the resistance in the pickup coils? You need a multimeter that can record Ohms to about 750Ω. If you can I will look up the reading required for the pickups for you

OK Pickup coil resistance should be within the range 380 - 570 Ω Ignition coil Primary windings resistance - 2.3 - 3.5Ω Secondary winding resistance - 12 - 18 kΩ Take off the tank and you can see the coils under the mainframe. Have a look at this picture and undo the connector indicated to check the pickup coils resistance Before you do all this do make sure that you have completely eliminated the coils as a possible fault. You should be able to "move" the fault to the other plugs by changing the coils around and swapping the wiring around. By changing over the low tension leads to the coils the misfire should change to the other plugs etc.

Thanks for that, I have swapped the coils round and the problem stayed the same but will check them out 2moro. Will let you know how I get on.

if the connector looks like shiny brass that's probably a good plug cap
if it looks like an old piece of galvanized steel then it may be not so good

Thanks for the help, the problem is my ECU. Had it tried on another bike today and it wouldn't run properly. Have checked evrything else and is OK.

A new one is going to cost about £200 or so. I guess a breaker would be your best bet
