ON Sunday as I was making errm progress to Oulton Park BSB my speedo just stopped.
Even though I have the Garmin telling me well I am making progress I was surprised how much the needle not moving made me nervous.
New cable ordered as I hope that is all it is

Just unscrew the old one a t the wheel and pull it out. You'll soon see if its broken. Be careful if you decide to put the replacement inner up the old outer. I tried this and eventually found out that the new cable set was a different length to the old one, Didn't make for a good afternoon. Changing the whole cable set sorted the problem.
You can spin the inner by hand and the speedo will flicker, so you can check it that way

cable replaced and still nothing.
Depending on which way I turn the inner depends whether the needle twitches.
If I ride with the cable disconnected from the speedo the inner doesn't move unless I wheel the bike backwards so I am guessing the speedo drive gear is busted on the front wheel. Not cheap from Kwak, £76.37 + VAT. Bugger anyone happen to have one laying around, Kwak part code is 41078 and it is the same part code for other models also

Isn't it educational when Brakey starts talking all "technical" like that.

right I fixed it for no cost ;D
Well I say no caost. I replaced the cable so that was a cost, but it made no difference.
So today wheel out checked speedo drive and saw nothng obvious, so circlip out of wheel and receiver removed, one of the lugs was slightly bent, this also casued a small crack. So a bit of adjustment to straightne it and put all back together.
Final thing to check was the worm drive on the speedo itself, being an S it was a good opportunity to replace the dial bulbs as I have not been happy with the LED ones for a while.
The worm drive was nice and clean and moving freely, being a kawasaki it was of course green.
All back together and a quick spin down the road and all working again.
I will order a new receiver at some point or if anyone is near a kwak dealer can they get me one, part code is 41064-1055 and they cost £7.01 ( I think)
