Most of you know I spend 99% of my Saturdays teaching CBTs at the local riding school. Mush fun had by me on my REX.
Anyhow I decided it was time to pop down to Cardington to the DSA to be assessed. No real need apart from its the progression to being a fully qualified instructor.
I will say it was probably one of the hardest things I ahve put my self through. Not the actual subject but the pressure of not knowing how you are getting on.
6 attended, 3 had been before and failed, 3 had nto been before, including me.
Split into 3 groups, you are allocated a CBT lesson out of each module and have to give the lesson to the examiner, the other two are your supervisors and have to give your feedback on your lesson.
The usual 2 hour CBT check ride is condensed into 45 minutes for this purpose and that was probably the hardest pressured check ride I have done in the 5 years of teaching.
I must have done plenty right, out of all the section I got 3 unsatisfactories but over all satisfactory so a pass. out of out group fo 3 I was the only one to pass, the other 2 had never delivered a lesson before and had paid alot of money for a training course.
Experience has alot of merits on this sort of thing.
Passing this means if I wanted to I could open my own training school doing just CBTs and have 10 people trained by me working for me.
Next step for me is the DAS assessment to be a fully qualified instructor.
But before that is my RoSPA exam

Yes well done indeed. I am about to start at my local IAM group, well in September anyway. As for practicing before I meet the group, I just don't have the time. So I am expecting to be torn apart in my riding techniques, but hay, nobody is perfect.

You know as well as I do Les, at our age, everything you do is wrong. But while I pride myself of 36 years riding, and never had a serious off, and the fact Im still here to tell the story.... I am by now means perfect in my riding. As no doubt a IAM instructor will tell me.
