Evenin' all,
Out riding today & when accelerating it felt like the chain had jumped a tooth on a sprocket from time-to-time. Stopped to to have a look, but couldn't see a problem.
Ride a few more miles & it was getting worse - like the chain is jumping about three teeth at a time.
Tried it in different gears & it's just happening in third, so obviously a gearbox problem.
Not heard of anything like this on a Rex before ('06 1200R btw) & just wondered if anyone has any ideas before the local mechanic rapes my wallet.
Ta muchly,
Russ

That sounds horrid. I've never heard of a problem like that on a ZRx, however it is fairly common on the ZX9R. Don't ask how i learned that one!
Its most likely either: - a) a bent selector fork b) a sloppy gear on a shaft c) a worn selector drum
More than likely a combination of at least 2 of those. before someone goes diving inside, just check that the gearchange linkage is free from crud and selects cleanly and that the chain is correctly adjusted.
If it is a, b, or c then its engine out. You can replace the selector forks without splitting the cases but if its the cogs then its a case of splitting the cases.
I think it is theoretically possible to do the forks without taking the engine out, but it would be very awkward working upside-down!

cn you not just lye the bike on its side to get at the forks

*UPDATE* Just got it back (at last!) & it was indeed a worn selector drum. This had also knackered 3rd gear & the selector fork. Sooo........Burchy was right again! As it turned out, the garage that repaired it were good eggs (Silverex in Braintree), but is was nice to know a little in advance. Thanks fella
