Olivier Jacque will miss the Chinese Grand Prix after injuring his forearm in the second free practice session for the race.
The 33-year-old Frenchman fell off his Kawasaki at the Shanghai circuit"s 75 mph final corner and hit the ground hard, sustaining deep cuts to his left arm after it appered to be trapped under the machine for a moment.
After checks at Moto GP's Clinica Mobile, the rider was airlifted to the Huashan hospital in downtown Shanghai, where he underwent a successful operation on the arm, which invloved the wounds being closed up.
Jacque will return to his home in Barcelona by Saturday morning where he will begin his recovery that the team hope will see him race in his home race at Le Mans in two weeks time.
Kawasaki competition manager Michael Bartholemy said: "The fact that the wound could be closed with a single operation today is good news for Olivier, because this will reduce the recovery time to the point where it could be possible for him to ride at Le Mans.
"For sure, he is motivated to come back for his home Grand Prix, and I hope that this will be the case, but we need to be sure that when he does return he does so in a condition that will allow him to race at 100 per cent.
"For this reason we will continue to assess Olivier's recovery over the next week or so before making a decision as to whether he will ride at Le Mans or not."
Kawasaki will run just one bike for Randy de Puniet for the rest of the Chinese Grand Prix weekend.
With chief test driver Naoki Matsudo also currently injured, it is likely that Spaniard Fonsi Nieto - who races for Kawasaki in World Superbikes - would deputise for Jacque in France should he fail to recover in time, although Ducati test rider Neil Hodgson's name has also been mooted.
