especially good as it as my last day at the Uni I am now officially on two weeks R n R and am looking forward to finally having the time to read some posts, polish my helmet (oo-er) and possibly even get out on the bike New job starts 20th March, Mrs G is demanding a holiday, so it looks like we may be heading to Scotland for a few days. Anyone recommend a nice Hotel/Castle in the Edinburgh/surrounding areas (going for posh hotels, and taking the car) for a wee bit of spoiling ourselves? woohoo, free at last

Congratulations madmoggy, I have no doubt that you've worked hard for this and have earned it.
Why Edinburgh in particular? I know it's an excellent place with much to see and do but so is my favourite Town in Scotland, Pitlochry.
Probably about 60 miles by road from Edinburgh, 20 or so north of Perth on the A9.
I know there's a posh Hotel there but can't name it. It's an old castle and does look f**k off expensive. There's even a helipad there should you wish to (literally) drop in.
Pitlochry also boasts, amongst other things, Bells and Edradour distilleries :whisky: and not far away (Moulin) a brewerey and excellent little pub if fine ales are your speciality.
There are of course many other reasons for visiting this place and is well worth a day trip out if you do settle for Edinburgh.

Why Edinburgh in particular? I know it's an excellent place with much to see and do but so is my favourite Town in Scotland, Pitlochry. Mainly to do with me liking the place as a young'un and not being back for ages, and Mrs G never having been at all. I remember Pitlochry as well (isnt that where the salmon leap is?) and have already suggested that area to her as well. I know there's a posh Hotel there but can't name it. It's an old castle and does look f**k off expensive. There's even a helipad there should you wish to (literally) drop in. Ive been looking at Dalhousie Castle, looks very nice and comes personally recommended by my sister. Thats south of Edinburgh but not by a lot. They do have a whirlybird facility, small jet, and also hire of a Rolls Royce with driver for the day........FOR £1600 per day!! I didnt dare look at the price to hire the jet. The beer sounds good, but I dont drink whisky any more as it disagrees with me ("no I dont" "yes you do" ) Mrs G fancies going to the Castle, one of the galleries, and shopping (no surprise there then) in George Street. Im happy to go anywhere, as a)she is paying, b)it means I wont be at work, and c)theres food and drink involved

Yup, Pitlochry is the place with the salmon leap. Wherever you go just make sure you both enjoy youselves.
