I just wanted to take few moments to post a quick hello to the other members of the site. As a new ZRX owner I quickly found that the ZRX seems to have quite a bit of a cult following, populated by folks who find the bike stunning, and a hell of a lot of fun to ride. I've met some very helpful riders in such a short period of time - one of whom suggested that ZRXUK is the place to be for sharing my new passion with like-minded souls.
So, as this is my first posting I will recall a quick story - of how I was stopped in my tracks when I saw a rex for the first time. I live in Ontario Canada, and while sitting at the local Tim Horton's I watched a guy ride in on a green ZRX. I wasn't even thinking of owning a bike, but wanted to take a look just because I thought it so sharp. I'd swear the chap was talking about the mistress he'd left his grizzly wife for the way he went on about the thing. His enthusiasm kind of got to me.
This spring the trap sprung, and I was has hooked on the idea of buying a bike. After much reading I decided to buy a REX, and drove some 3700 km round trip to get the one I really wanted. As I reposition my over-ridden sore ass I will swear with the biggest of smiles that I'd do it over again in a flash!
I love this damned thing - how it sounds, and tears at the pavement below when the throttle is turned just a bit too quickly. The guy I bought it from was an older Kwaker mechanic, who added full Muzzy, Dynojet carbs., air box mod., and cams. The result is that on a couple of occasions I could have sworn that riding my bike felt like the scenes in those Star Trek shows where they engage the warp speed button. Most riding is slow cruising, though, and I look forward to some good miles this fall.
In closing, I would like to thank Floog for his scholarly article on the history of the ZRX. Damned fine work man!!! Word has it that UVIC is offering a course on the history of the REX, and is using this post as required reading.
By the way, I would also like to make a comment on Victoria B.C., as someone who stays there a few weeks every year. There are a couple of straight aways over 2 km long, before a REX rider would have to make a right or left turn . All I can say is that it's the most beautiful place I've ever been to, and on my bike trip across this fine land of ours I will ride the 400 km length of Vancouver Island to see all those Douglas Fir trees.
