Hi Folks, I've heard you're a friendly lot on here so I hope you can help me. Now obviously you'll be a little biased, but I'm looking to replace my Triumph Trophy with something I'll actually want to ride and have narrowed the list down to a ZRX12 and a Fazer 1000 . I'm 5'-8" and about 12 1/2 stone and got fed up with the weight and top heavy feel of the Trumpet, I also found the stretch to the bars a bit much below 70. As far as I can see, the ZRX is probably a similar weight to the Trumpet, but with better handling and infinitely more gorgeous. I like a torquey motor so the ZRX wins there, but the Fazer is significantly lighter than than the ZRX. Most of my riding is Saturday rides out around North Yorks 2 up, where speeds are up to a ton, there's a few bumps to contend with and I usually manage to drag my pegs once or twice an outing. I'm also hoping to do a bit of touring later in the year. Obviously I will be blagging a test ride on each bike asap, but was wondering if anyone on here has experience of both bikes and also if there are any sensible ways of shedding some weight from the Rex. Many thanks, Ade.

Hi and welcome to :zrxuk: You're right we are a friendly bunch here As regards the Rex v. fazer argument, I can do no better than to point you to the May edition of Bike Magazine, where they compare a ZRX1200S, Fazer1000 and a CBF1000 Guess what wins?

:bye: Hi Ade. There is nothing wrong with the Fazer, it modern motor gives you all you want (tho a lot of people were thinking it was going to be a more gentle R1, it wasn't to be) If your thinking of doing some touring , then the S would be better at keeping you more comfy at the sort of speeds you mention. And the R is a real stunner on a sat night blast. The only problem is getting hold of one, it well be a lot easier to find a Blazer than a ZRX. But if you've set your heart on a :zrx: then it's well worth the wait. The Blazer : Modern styling, well made, reliable The ZRX : Engine that is unburstable, Charismatic by the bucket load. (+ you'll be part of a elite biking history)

Well yes, I suppose :hmm: we could be just on the slightly biased side here. However, two's up the Rex is gonna hammer the fazer every time, get a set of peg extenders and you will have a very happy pillion. The seat is very comphy two's up as well, and the engine is not as buzzy or vibrates as much as the fazer does. Plus with all the torque that a Rex throws out there is much less gear changing As badger states, the S makes a very decent tourer although you would be hard pushed to find one under four years old now, however the R is a good all rounder and with a screen mod aint too bad if you stick to somewhere just above the legal limit. All the best in looking and have fun test riding them.

Hi and welcome to the site
I do 2 up most of the time the same as you around lincolnshire on my ZRX12R and i am about the same hight and weight as you, i have tried a fazer 1000 (a friends) and yes it is lighter but i wouldn't swap the rex for a fazer they are both good bikes but the zrx just tips the scales for me

Thanks guys,
Interesting that there are more second hand Fizzies around than Rex's, that probably speaks volumes.
I've got about a month before the new buyer picks up the Trumpet, then I'll be looking in earnest, in the meantime, if anyone hears of a 1200 for about £3k, reasonable miles and sensible mods I'd be interested to hear about it.
Thanks again.
Ade.

Keep your eye on Ebay (there is one in our "for sale" section). Keep us posted how you get on. sounds like youve made you mind up already

One careful owner, (before me of course)

"A pretty red one that's been readvertised here" Seen that one, thanks, but 46000 miles sounds a bit risky, although the price is good "One careful owner, (before me of course)" Can you PM me some details please? I feel a certain inertia developing Cheers again, Ade.

You won't go wrong with Ruby Red (Les's spare Rex). It's even got new levers (That reminds me, when do you want me to come round to fix it up for you, Les?)

Seen that one, thanks, but 46000 miles sounds a bit risky, although the price is good Believe me, dont take too much notice with the mileage, the REX is as strong as a Ox, mines done 47,000 and dont look it, sound it, or feel like it. If they are looked after - which most REX owners do- just check it over as per normal, dont think you'll find any hidden faults. But , end of the day..it's up to you
