I just thought I'd drop in and say hello.I'm Mike.I'm 46,and from Poole in Dorset.Ive been riding since about the age of 8,and have had in the region of 50 bikes over the years.
I've just bought my 1st Zrx.It's a '99 1100 with 42000 miles.I've also got a Yam FJR1300 having just sold my K9 Hayabusa.
So the Zrx popped up for sale recently, and I was in the market for a cheap daily ride.
The guy I got it off appeared to be heading down the streetfighter avenue with the satin black paint and renthalls.
Anyway,he'd stuck a jet kit in and cone filters on,and had been trying to get it running right for a while, but couldn't and gave up.I offered £950 and rode the beast away.
First impressions it was fast, but the revs were hanging horribly,it didn't corner too well which was sorted by pumping up the tyres.Brakes were spongy, but like I said,it went like stink.
Not being too bothered about cone filters,I took them off and sourced an original airbox.I removed the carbs and refitted standard jets and needles, reset mixture screws to standard, and unblocked the pilot jets which I'd guessed was the problem with the hanging revs.
So,time to put it all back together. The airbox was a bitch to get in.My neighbours learned lot's of new swear words, and witnessed lots of tool throwing. My 17mm combination spanner is now on a neighbours shed roof.I must get that back. After about 4 hours everything was finally back together.I thumbed the sterter and was greeted with a beautifully smooth running engine with a nice crisp throttle response.
I've also replaced the 6 pot calipers with a set of triumph badged nissins,so I've goy my braking back.
Jobs still to do is replace the shocks with something cheap..The rear feels almost solid.I'm 16.5 st and the current ones are pretty much on the bumpstops on their hardest setting. The lowered seat has to go,as there's almost no foam, and as I'm 6'2" it feels like my knees are round my ears...Oh,and finally,I've got to stick a new rear disc on as the current one's warped.
So,that's about it really. If I can keep the parts spend cheap,I may well treat the old thing to a lick of paint.
