Hi all a few of you will have read about my recent bike trip and accident in Scotland. And I posted a pic too.
Spoke with the insurers this morning and they say beyond economical repair, does that mean Cat C or D. Now I've never made an insurance claim before in my life and at 51 that ain't bad.
I'm looking for a bit of advise.
Main damage to the bike are the Front Fork tubes being bent. The bike went down on it's side and slid into the Kerb, surely the frame won't be bent? Other damage includes radiator punctured, brake levers snapped off, Akro can damaged, nose fairing knackered and an indicator broke. Engine was protected by engine bars so no damage apart from bars scraped.
I'm waiting for the report from the insurance people and I presume an offer.
The bike itself is 2007 1200r with 10k (genuine) miles, full Akro system.
So what's the value? £4k ish
And do you think I should buy it back, I can do most spannering and have the space and tools.
Cheers

If there's no engine damage (did it run on its side for very long - can have implications for bearing damage) and the frame isn't tweaked, purchasing it back and doing repairs yourself may be a reasonable option. Part of the reason they get written off is the cost of labour to have a shop do all the repairs.

I reckon the engine stalled as it was still in gear and not running so should be ok. I wait the report and offer from the insurance.
Cheers

Just had insurance write off details. £4425 and I can buy back at £1416, it's a CAT C write off. I'm now waiting for the engineers report.

I have the engineers report. £3400 worth of parts? 5 hours of labour? They're having a giraffe.

Yea buy it back mate, i would, keep your ears open for any strange noises from the engine tho, 20/30 seconds running on its side and the crank can suffer oil starvation (usually on no2 cylinder) leading to a rod making a break for freedom threw the front of the engine casing, sorry to ear about your miss fortune on this trip, been trying to post up but have problems signing in on this site these days (old PC and operating system).

But alas I will have to decline as I can't wait to get stuck in to fixing her. Meanwhile I pulled my 89 ZX10 from the other garage last night and moved to my workshop so I have a big bike to play on. She was mothballed 2years ago and kept snug and dry.
