Very true Brakey, but Bigbol & RT never pass a petrol station without topping up your tank when you are up the West Coast Loch Caron is your last slash & dash going to Applecross.

Great tips guys. When I got my rex (from a mate), under the seat was a red fuel bottle. Possibly 2 litres so that could be handy. Also, Puncture Repair Kits, recommendations?
Cheers

Hey Bigbol a puncture repair kit is a great idea as well, buy a good quailty one (i bought a Rema as used by the AA and RAC and sold with new BMW's) and spend a bit of time on Utube learning how to use it propally, better that than trying to work it out at the roadside somewhere! Ditch the fuel bottle, you won't need it, your going to Scotland not Mongolia, there are plenty of 24hour fuel stations etc and that big stash area under the seat can be put to much better use.... Brakey/Mate me and Stripe will be up at J O'G on Friday July 18th for one night before starting an end to end (Ironbutt job, non stop in 24 hours or less) on the Saturday morning if you fancy a pint. Thanks for the offer RT, sadly we will be against the clock so probably won't have the time to take you up on it this time but maybe another time mate.... cheers Pete

2 weeks and a couple of days before the off. Bike serviced, oil changed etc. I bought brake pads but on further examination I reckon the existing ones have a lot of mileage in them. Chain and sprockets good, tension before the trip. I've done 5k since I got the bike and the chain's not needed adjusting yet. I'm not a hard rider. So, Tryes. Both front and rear have done 5k and still the rear looks good. I don't expect in 3days we'll do more than 2k, do you think the back tyre is up for it? Like I've said, i'm not a hard rider.

I did Huddersfield to Applecross in one hit on a Rex, we only stopped for fuel. That's when i discovered the OE seat is not very good.
If you've not gone yet and are camping, take a tin of flyspray to kill the little bastards that have got into your tent. Spray it about half an hour before you go to bed.

We're glamping, but the fly spray is a very good idea and it's now on the list. As for the seat, i'm ok with it, it's my knees that start to bother me.
