Afternoon all. A good friend of mine has decided that for one of his 'Stag' weekends a selected few are to head north on our bikes. From Leyland, Lancs area we're heading to Scotland, Helensburgh for 1 night followed by 2 nights Glamping in Applecross. Fantastic. I'll be on my 1200r and the others i'm not sure. Dave the Stag has a FZ1, another a BMW GS thingy and that's all I know.
So, I've never been that far on any bike, 400 mls to Applecross and then we venture out daily.
Any pointers for what I need would be appreciated. I can put hard panniers and box on my rex as it came with them, though I took them off for daily useage. 3 nights away, 1st in a B&B, so i'll need a sleeping bag. It will be late June so should be warm rain in Scotland.
New tyres and service before the trip for good measure, so what else.
Tools? Small socket set? Pliers, tie wraps? Bungees? Spares? Clothes, minimal, socks, undies, tees, beer and food vouchers? Sun cream, pmsl? Bite cream? 1st aid kit?
Cheers Colm

BB, I think you've got most things covered. There was a group of 12 ( I think )went to Normandy, mostly REXers the odd Honda, a BMW and a ZZR ( not mine, I didn't have it then) every bike never missed a beat, and non of the REX riders reported any aches or pains. Enjoy the trip, n don't worry about the bike. It will do it with ease. Agree with Badger. I took the Redrex to Italy summer before last. Did an oil change beforehand and did check to make sure I had enough brakes etc but that was it. Didn't miss a beat. Panniers, topbox and tankbag, but still managed a flat out 150 on an Autostrada Mont Blanc in the background

Hello BB the Rex is ideal for this sort of thing esp as you have a set of hard luggage, i've done quiet a few camping/long distance trips on mine over the years with no issues whatsoever. Keep an eye on your oil level, the Rex can burn a bit on long motorway journeys, when i do 1000milers in 24hours using 1/2 to 3/4 of a litre isn't unusual, tho my mates S hardly used any. I carry basically the standard tool kit, tho i have changed the spanners for proper quality ring spanners and have added a couple of pairs of pliers (long nose, stubby and wire cutters) to replace the cheap Kwak one, have added a small set of allen keys (i have replaced a lot of my standard fixings with allen bolts) and have a decent screwdriver and a small set of bits to go with it. Spares are restricted to a set of bulbs, a full set of fuses and a half dozen or so assorted nuts, bolts and washers just in case something goes awol, also carry a short length of wire and a roll of insulation tape just in case. I always take a one piece rain suit, just a cheap Oxford one, it doesn't keep me bone dry in stormy conditions but it does stop the wind and that helps a lot in bad weather. always take a set of thermals as well, there cheap and don't take up any room so why not (hate being cold me!). A small tin of chain lube between you all would be a good idea, your doing a lot of milage over the three days so it wouldn't hurt, i use a Scottoiler so don't need to bother. Thats it really can't think of anything else, joining Green Flag, RAC or similar is always a good idea but thats down to personal choice (i wouldn't leave home without some kind of cover to be honest)and beware the midges, there fuggin horrid. Heres a link to a post i did on my 09 Trip to Scotland, you may find it helpful on your adventure and have a good time fella. zrxgremllin.proboards.com/thread/6421/firmhand-scotland-aug-09

I think the guys got it all covered bb. Also take wd40 for things that don't move that should and gaffa tape for things that move that shouldn't! Saved me a few times I went to applecross last year. Did the circular route that you can do from there. It was like riding on an alpine pass. Totally brilliant. You will love it.
