Hi everyone,
Hope you are all well and all the best for 2014. I Just wanted to introduce myself. Im Garry 32 maintenance engineer from Newcastle. I'm Fairly new to biking, been riding about 3 year now.
Bike history so far has been a YZF r125 then ZXR600 (2007) an now a proud owner of a 2004 zrx1200r in the right colour lol. I Seen a zrx1200r at the northwest 200 last year owed by a lucky gentlemen who had about 10 bikes in his collection and fell in love with the retro muscle look.
I was really happy with the zxr apart from cramped super sport position for my frame and I've got some great memories of last summer happily sitting at the back of my pals R1's and fire blades even when they pulled over and waited for me at petrol stations when the blue-tooth ran out of range lol.
I was casually looking at bike shops (as you do) and seen a zrx1200r and couldn't get it out my mind. Long story short I ended up going back and virtually swapping my 2007 for the 2004 zrx. I haven't looked back. The bike is awesome!!!! It about the same BHP but the torque is what makes me feel safer if that sounds silly. Overtaking and slow speed riding on the zrx1200 and of course the very comfortable neutral riding position lets me enjoy the ride a lot better than looking through the tip of the visor on the ninja.. Not to mention the sore neck after a few miles
The compartment under the seat was a huge surprise too. I've Noticed a few people swapping out the standard battery for a small modern battery and freeing up even more room under the seat which I'm def temped by.
I've Carried out a few mods on the bike already as it was totally un-modded when purchased. Flipped the eccentrics/ x- DID chain/ fitted a 190 back tyre/ bobbed the rear tail light-LED light/ LED indicators/ removed the grab handles/ green hoses/dropped the bikini fairing 80mm for aesthetics/ LED clock lights( much more visible during the day)/rim wraps/ stumpy'd my exhaust and made a custom baffle/ custom made tail-tidy/carbon fibre look belly pan, mudguard extender and air box covers/ bar handle mirrors.. I even put some mesh over the front light as a protector as I was unlucky enough to get a cracker light on a ride... I was gutted so I engineered it out for pennies lol/ braided brake hose.
I know modding isn't to a lot of peoples likes but it needed a bit of work to get it spotless and I got a bit carried away in the garage with too many cups of tea ;-).
The forums have been great for inspiration so I just wanted to say thanx.
Christmas is over and summer is to look forward too so I hope all you folks out there have fun.
