Well Im praying someone has an idea cause Im out of them, The Majestic has a water leak, its around the top of the engine and leaks over the exhausts. Ive checked every pipe and connection I can find and cannot find a leak. Ive run her up to hot and squeszed pipes to no avail, gave it a dammed good torching and no sign, but I am deffo loosing water. It can run for days with no problems, then as happened Tuesday, rode a couple of miles to the petrol station, stopped to fill up, and a small cloud of steam arises from the front of the engine. Its weird, sunday I rode it fifty plus miles at making progress speeds, and no problems. Me Im going trying to sort this.

Might it be a pin hole leak in the radiator?
Has happened to others.

Yea but if it was wouldn't she do it all the time, these sort of things are a pig to lock down and if i recall correctly the rads fairly new on this bike as it poped two years ago on the North and South meet.

Dont think its the rad as there is no sign of a leak on it, as Pete says its fairley new and still is in very good condition so water leak on the rad would (should) be visible. It appears to be comming from the top of the engine area, when it does leak. Im moving towards a thermostat problem, although there is no indication of temp variations before, during or after it dumps water.

Stripe had a screw on his thermostat corrode which caused a tiny leak on an endurance ride, cost him his engine as he lost all his water over the cause of the event (no warning lights as his system was dry). I would also check the fan whilst i was on (short it with a piece of wire) just in case its not working and the engine is boiling up or something and causing a leak at high temps, no expert Les as you know mate but worth a look.

Thinking about it you have an S so a propper temp gauge, R just has a warning light when she starts to boil up, mind you so did Stripe.

I think most leaks (including a rad leak) would not appear until after the engine had warmed up and the pressure had built up in the cooling system.
Sometimes the pin hole rad leaks are on the back of the rad and if it happened in the top row, the leak would wet the top of the engine.
Think you'll have to pull some bodywork and start checking hoses, gaskets and fasteners for a start.

You should start to see some witness marks when the fluid boils away, Something like a white stain. When my rad holed it was at the top on the inside . When the water level in the system dropped to jyust below the hole it didn't lose anymore coolant. Admittedly the system didn't pressurise correctly but it didn't boil over and didn't cause any further problems.
When I first found it I was toppinbg up every 50 miles. I gradually discovered that I could extend this a bit every time and ended up riding a day into Santander and then all the way home from Plymouth without topping up. I was about ½ pint down and it never got worse than that

Try replacing the rad cap, was happening to me and a new rad cap and reservoir cap sorted it.

well been searching high and low and finally removed the rad to investigate behind it, fan and front upper front of engine showing signs of leakage, so its gotta be the rad. Anyway rad now stripped and ready to go in for repair tommorow, its amazing just how neat the rex looks with the rad removed, much more agressive especially with the stainless exhaust.
