Im having a nightmare fitting this stupid pipe It refuses to fit into the holes in the engine with new O rings fitted, although it drops in fine without any O rings atall Ive fitted it using the original O rings but its still too damn tight as far as i can see, the 2 bolts which hold it into the engine have bent the pipe mounts out of shape, which Ill have to reshape Water is appearing in the 2 middle pipes as they fit into the engine, Ive only used tapwater just to see how watertight a fit it is The bike refuses to run with the new pipe fitted, itll start on choke then die off, if i keep it running by hand, the engine sounds like a turbo dump valve, every few seconds making p-tish noises Im really losing it here and feel like scrapping the bike and forgetting biking altogether any help will be GREATLY appreciated

Oh dear! Sounds a bit of a nightmare. Right, the turbo-like noise is, I reckon, just air purging around the system. Don't worry about it yet until everything else id sorted. Fitting this pipe shouldn't have any effect on the starting/running of the engine. That's down to carburation and ignition.
Probably best to leave it for a day or so, and let the adrenaline die down a bit. Make sure everything is clean, straight and lined up. Use loads of red rubber grease to get the seals in, but try and avoid the screwdriver approach

:hmm: strange one Guyv, you need the "o" ring on the thing or it wont seal, so dont know wot to suggest sure someone will be along soon to help, dont despair

Have you lubed it? I just used vaseline. It won't just push in, try overlong bolts with a nut on & tighten both up in turn to ease it in. Possibly a bit of a tap with a rubber faced hammer or block of wood may help. make sure everything is nice & square as have you discovered it's a nice tight fit. Ooer missus.

The really weird thing is when I put my finger over the black pipe to the fuel tap (breather?) the bike would run a tiny bit better but not much, it's as though I've altered the ignition timing. I've bought a new fuel pipe to fit (genuine), which I'm glad I didn't fit as I would have thought that was the problem.
I've got Thursday off, so I'll re strip the bike and re work the bent screw brackets. When (if) I get the pipe to fit, am I right in thinking that I need to have the engine running while I bleed the screw on the water pump, then bleed the top bleed nipple next to the radiator cap under the tank.

I did lube the O rings and used slightly longer bolts to ease the pipes in, but the 2 centre pipes just refused to seat, I did use a plastic mallet to help but all that did was put a small dent into the pipe. I think it's a very poor design, ideally it needed a third bolt in the centre to make sure all pipes were seated correctly. When you did yours, how did you bleed the system? As there is a bleed screw fitted to the end of the pipe.

Your "breather" is in fact the vacuum pipe for the fuel tap. For the time being stick something like a small bolt in it to stop air leaking into the manifold. I suspect you've also disturbed some of the other pipes as well.
I'd lay a piece of wood over the entire pipe before I tapped it, just to spread the load as it were, rather than hitting a relatively small area of the pipe

I did stick a piece of cloth in it in the end, but by that time, the bike refused to start point blank
Does it matter if i get any red rubber grease into the waterpipes?
I just wondered if it would cause any cooling system problems

Can you believe that Halfords don't stock red rubber grease, I've ordered a tub off eBay, could have got small containers but the post would have taken too long, so bought a bigger tub with next day delivery.

HI. Hope you have managed to sort out your water-pipe ? you said you are using your old rubber ring's seals try new ones as the old ones are hard and wont give that small amount that is needed to fit the pipe. just fitted a new pipe on mine and it went on with a small tap with my hand. make shore the holes in the engine block are clean give them a good rub with scotch bright till the alloy hole is clean put rubber grease on seals and in en gin block water holes place pipe in to position and tap from center outwards with flat of hand or rubber mallet [ not to hard ] do not use bolts to pull pipe in to holes wont work. hope this helps.
