Against all my better judgement, I let her indoors pick up a new laptop..........from Comet!!!!!!!!! An Acer Aspire 7551 with a 17" screen. After 30 days, a key dropped off. I had a quick look to find that the bloody thing had already been repaired with a blob of super glue. Now suspicious, I checked the seal to find another one under the one that I broke open. They wouldn't even look at it. All they said they'd do is to send it off for repair. I said I'd paid for a new one and wanted a new one; not a recon and certainly not a repaired recon. 'Take it or leave it' was the attitude. I'm waiting on Acer as I write this but I don't hold out much hope. They all know that it's a lot of time and expense to try and take them on...so all I can say is.......don't ever get owt from those scheisters I'm putting this on every site that I'm registered on. If I can save just one persons hard earned cash

They've got no case at all. Speak to one of the grownups there, if you can find one. This is tantamount to fraud and I would mention words like "Fraud", "police" and "trading standards"
Don't accept anything less than a full refund.
You paid for a new PC that works. This one isn't and doesn't

It is supposed to be fit for purpose and it is obviously not.
According to the Sales of Goods Act (1979):
* Wherever goods are bought they must “conform to contract”. This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).
* Goods are of satisfactory quality if they reach the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account the price and any description.
* Aspects of quality include fitness for purpose, freedom from minor defects, appearance and finish, durability and safety.
* It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract.
* If goods do not conform to contract at the time of sale, purchasers can request their money back “within a reasonable time”. (This is not defined and will depend on circumstances)
I beleive their head office is in Hull with a phone number of 01482 320681
They are notorious fro giving bad customer service

I've quoted the sale of goods act but I think so many threaten them and do nothing that they ignore it. But being a tight bugger with time on my hands with the missus watching endless soaps, I can at least pester them for months on end using this immaculate laptop

Go for it greasey. You've got right and the law on your side. Don't let the buggers fob you off and get away with it.

Talk about being getting squashed between two giants. Neither Acer nor Comet will give me a new machine. Acer won't repair it for free because it has had an unauthorised repair and they say it was a new machine. They say Comet must pay but Comet says Trading standards say that it will be hard to prove and the best I should expect is to have it repaired. The missus says to drop it as I've repaired it myself with a £2 new clip and it's just not worth the bother. It just grates me that I've been stiffed. Roll on springtime when I can go for a blast and get sh*t like this out of my system
