Hi anyone got any good ideas on how to remove surface rust from a fuel tank??? I've bought a '96' Yamaha TDM 850 that has been standing for about 5years, and the tank has quite a bit of surface rust inside, none on the outside.
Thanks for any help. Rob

Small nuts and bolts, a couple of handfuls of sharp grit, that sort of thing. Take the tap and any fuel gauge sender off first and then spend the afternoon swirling it all around

Then rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse You've just knocked tons of old rusty crap off the inside of the tank and you don't want any of it to end up in your carbs, ya know?

Pea gravel works well, just give it a good rinse first as Lightspeed says.

You can get acid based rust removers with inhibitors in them that only attacks rust an leaves the good metal alone. When I worked in the lab back in the day, I made my own, wonderful stuff.
