Hi Steve and welcome to :zrxuk:
As you probably know YB has a blue 400, although there aren't (m)any others on here.
The bottom of the engine is the same as a ZZR600E, 1993- 2000, indeed many of the parts are interchangeable, clutch, covers etc. My bet would be to follow that route. Are you after an alternator? If you are I would get as many measurements and pictures and contact those guys to confirm it looks the same.
Given enough time and encouragement, I could find out the part numbers to confirm

OK he aprt number of the stator is 21003-1368 and its the same part for zzr600d and zzr600e all years. Just as well I know Kelly's Heroes inside out! You don't want to be looking for a new one from Mama K. they're £355

Well ordered the generator from electrex yesterday, it's there G73 model in case anyone needs one for there 400 in the future, fits the ZZR400 aswell as the ZZR600 also (to name a few!)
Will let you's know how the fitting goes and if it cures the problem!
Cheers

Right guys generator arrived, fits in the casing perfect only thing that needed addressing before testing was the wire as it was too short to reach the existing ZRX400 wiring! so cut the wiring of the old gene and fitted a 3 spade female plug to the end that I'd cut off the gene from and used it as an extension lead:) fired the bike up and no more charging probs woohoo even with ever electrical device switched on no problems.
Cheers

Well done, Steve. It's great that it has worked out OK. Good to know that the zzr600 genny fits OK even with a B&Q extension lead! Don't suppose you want rid of the 250 do you? only YB really wants one of those to expand his Kwak knowledge

Wow, the wheels on your 1100 sure catch your eye! Are they painted or powder coated?
Quite a collection of Kwacks there.
