Just wondering if anyone else is having any problems with this site, its dead slow, keeps freezing on me and posting is an absolute nightmare to the point i've given up trying on several occasions over the last too weeks, fraid i can't even be bothered to try posting a pic as i'm sure it will fail.
We've moved recently, switched to AVG Free from Mcafee after the subsciption ran out and downloaded ZoneAlarm, i also downloaded the latest Java recently.
Real annoying as it only seems to affect this site, rest of the web seems fine although a bit slow and occasional freeze.
thanks in advance for any help
cheers
Pete

I think the whole Internet is slow lately!!!! Seems like just moving from page to page takes forever, and that's on a high speed link All my anti virus is up to date and our servers recently ran sweeps for trojans and all kinds of other nasties, so I don't think there is anything on my computer that is slowing things up.

When the avatars/pictures won't resize, hit F5, that usually resizes them. But. that posted picture just seems to want to take its time resizing down.

Still is a huge picture. I have my screen set at a pretty high resolution and that photo is three screens high and two screens wide. 2100 x 2800 pixels and 1.2 MB in size

Not everybody is a computer whizzzkid and easily able to resize pics before uploading them. To make it easier for more members to post pics without the aggravation of having to resize them first, what I've done is to run a little piece of code in the background to display the pics at a predetermined maximum size. Note the word display. The images themselves are not resized so therefore take up more memory than they normally would and this is the trade off for ease of use. This is not a new idea and has been running for most of the history of this site. It works ok most of the time but every now and then the occasional image, usually an avatar, slips through the net and the board resizes itself to fit the image rather than the other way round. Refreshing the page usually sorts this out. I have in the past, discreeetly resized avatar pics and hosted them myself to help ease the situation. I haven't been around to do this for a while so there may be one or two (or even several) avatar pics that are oversized and causing the occasional problem. I'll be keeping my eye out for these in due course but in the meantime if you know of any that need resizing please let me know. I don't mind resizing and hosting the odd avatar pics but there's no way I can resize every pic that gets posted. Other sites have strict rules about maximum image sizes but so far we've managed to avoid that here but at the expense of page load times.

Busy is the short answer. I've either been busy working or busy playing. I've kinda lost the plot and sidetracked myself of late and haven't been managing my free time all that well. I just haven't been able to find or make the time to put in an appearance here unfortunately. Hopefully now, my head's sorted out and I can get back to playing here for a change.

Just found a really easy way for anybody to resize images before hosting them here. More on that elsewhere. Resized and rehosted firmhands original pic to see how much easier the page loads. Currently using my oldest laptop with XP which is the only computer I have access to that hasn't got a widescreen monitor. Page loads a lot more easily now but one thing I have noticed. It only affect this laptop with its narrower monitor but the avatar coloumn is wider than it should be , to such an extent that the post area has been narrowed. That little ant in my sigline is supposed to be to the right of the banner, not underneath it as I'm looking at now. Is anybody else getting this?
