Quay Garage rider Gary Mason completed a superb weekend of racing for the team at the Croft BSB round by lifting the Mirror.co.uk Championship Cup with two rounds to spare.
The popular rider from Litchfield was in title winning mood from the off, qualifiying in sixth position putting him on the second row of the starting grid, ahead of a whole raft of factory riders.
Race one saw the Cup Championship leader secure an excellent start and although he battled with brake fade, Mason crossed the line in 8th place overall ahead of Julien DaCosta and Graeme Gowland.
Mason lined up on the grid for race two with an air of confidence needing to secure a margin of only 6.5 points to take the Mirror.co.uk Cup Championship for the second time in Quay Garage Racing's five year history. Mason launched the Quay Garage Honda from the line to take 5th place overall into turn 1 and from the opening lap he rode the wheels off his mount to maintain the margin required to take the 2009 Mirror.co.uk championship.
Mason was clearly delighted. "That was an awesome race. The bike felt good and we remedied the brake fade problem encountered in race 1.
I would like to send sincere thanks to Ian and the Quay Garage team for helping me win this championship in such a decisive manner. I would also like to thank all our sponsors, Old Moors Cider, Q8 Oils, A&C Recruitment, Mitchells and Nolan Oils for their support without which we wouldn't have even been in a position to start the 2009 season."
Ian Woollacott, team principal, added that he was "...absolutely over the moon to have clinched the team's second victory in the Cup Championship.
Gary has ridden a superb season, consistently finishing at the sharp end and more importantly bringing the bikes home without any real battle damage. It has been a tough year scraping together the funds to attend each round; to win the Cup gives us an immense sense of achievement.
My thanks go out to the team, our sponsors and especially Gary Mason for his commitment throughout. Our business now is 2010 and finding the much needed sponsorship to purchase two new machines and put together the infrastructure necessary to mount an assault on the main BSB Championship."
