Im thinking of removing the baffles from the standard pipes on my zzr1200 so ive seen a video link of someone doing this but its not very explanitary now if i remove the baffles by the way of drilling them out as seen i was just wondering if its going to to need a free flowing filter to acompany it Also will it need re-jetting and setting up again If it does need all this then ill pass on the project and just go for an aftermarket pipe Any help apreciated .......snoops anyone

Before I got the Akra system I had drilled the stock baffles. Took it off, got a long 3/8" drill and drilled about 15 holes in the three portions of the stock baffle. Added a more throaty sound at low revs and a bit more howl at the top end. Since the header, not the muffler, is the primary restriction to performance gains from the exhaust system, no power gains.
I'm not sure I'd be "removing" the entire baffle, if that's what you're talking about - unless you just want noise.

Agreed.
If the ZZR is anything like the Rex then any restriction will be in the stock headers.
Try asking on a dedicated ZZR forum would be my move.

Cheers, ive been trying to get some info on this subject and seems its either remove the whole baffle including the cats or similar to what you said lightspeed . To drill out the baffles and drill more holes in them and put them back or drill extra holes in them and cut the baffles down shorter and put them back Im sure the stock headers are restrictive and i would benefit from a complete system but your talking loads a wonga for that . Re jettings needed for the mod i want to do and its putting me off as it gets more technical I think the only answer would be to save up the pennies and go for a complete system or replacement cans and save up for some headers

On the REX I found that with the drilled baffle, it only took a wee bit of tweeking on the idle jets to clean up some mild backfiring, but on the REX unless you get rid of the restrictive headers and really open up the flow, there's not much to be gained by rejetting. Don't know how that experience might translate to the ZZR though.

Ive been swotting up again on this and seems it is as i guess with most standard bike headers that they are restrictive and a full system will give me all the benefits only trouble i haven't got full system monies at the mo Ive purchased some nice free flowing pipes The standard air filter will do just a gooda job as a aftermarket one and only other thing would be to remove the catalists . Catalists removed meaning re jetting with a jet kit thats been developed by the owners . Still swotting up so once me new pipes are fitted ill take it stage by stage and see how it goes
