Dose anyone know how to set the timing up on a gpz500s Jnrs engine has gone kaput and he wants me to have a look at it but i need to know how to do the timing as i think its going to be a compleate strip down.

Not a lot as their was no oil in the engine when it whent kaput kids today

Sounds to me like the timing is the last of your problems! yes i now but i am going to strip the engine and rebuild it if i can,if i can rebuild a jag engin i should be able to do a gpz so i will need to know how to set up the timing

Sounds to me like the timing is the last of your problems! yes i now but i am going to strip the engine and rebuild it if i can,if i can rebuild a jag engin i should be able to do a gpz so i will need to know how to set up the timing doesn't Gremlin have one of those? does he have a manual? buddy of mine has manuals for EX500s but he's a 100 miles away & i don't think i'll be there for a week or so i guess all you need to know is which marks on the sprockets line up with the head & how many camchain pins between them ? they're probably all the same but what year is it ? if it's not worth fixing after you look at the crank let me know

OOps!! just spotted this post and I've been back for over a week!! Yes, I do have the Haynes manual for the GPz 500. If you still need help and advice gimme a shout and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks gremlin sorry i haven't got back sooner but now the funeral is over i have moor time, jnr got a Haynes manual but i will contact you as i will most certainly need some advice, it tries to start but under compression makes a hell of a racket so we are going to have to strip the engine, i will keep you informed when i star the job KIDS
