My little bro owns a FZR 400 RR jap import, that he purchased off of E-bay At the mo hes encountering a minor but annoying problem.. whilst in motion- he cranks bike upto 9,000rpm- 11,000rpm from 3rd gear upwards, and experience's a small blip in power. Hes been advised to check CDI unit which he had sent away and tested, results were it was dead!!, after purchasing a recon'd unit he still faces same prob. He has also changed both coils and still no joy Hez been told it might be fuel problems/ or restrictor probs- I have checked both ( he has no restriction on the bike) and all seems ok i told him to get valves reset as it sounds as though the exhaust valves maybe slightly out of time, i experienced something similar on my XR 650 single- and after having the valves done the prob was solved!! i told him id ask on ere as the guys have some knowledge of other machines- Can anyone shed some much needed light on this subject as the little blighter is getting a tad p***ed off with it much appreciated for any suggestions>>>>>

Don't understand how it was running if the CDI was "dead"! No CDI = no spark! When you say a "small blip in power" do you mean it dies, starts to miss, or just goes soft? Does the power pick up once past that rev band (just a dip in the power curve), or does it just lose power above 9000 or 11000? Am I to understand that it does not do this in 1st or 2nd gear, only in the upper gears? Need a bit more information.

Thanx for the reply mate- but no need to worry now as he sold the bike and purchased one that runs properly.
