There is now a new live chatroom integrated into this site.
You'll need to be logged in to see the link, which is on the homepage, to the right of the logout button in that row under the main picture. (Only registered members will be able to see or access our chatroom).
Click the link and wait a few seconds for the java applet to start. (it briefly reports an error message here but still opens properly) Log in with your username and away you go.
Once you're in there, take note of the information panel on the right hand side. It is possible to leave chat open in the background and browse the site at the same time. New arrivals to the room will be alerted by a "Welcome" sound which everybody who is in the room will hear.
Not everybody uses live chat but for those that do, it may be beneficial to log into it anyway before surfing the board/sending PMs to invite others to join. When somebody does login, you'll receive an alert provided your speakers are turned on.
The chatroom itself works well with many useful features available.
Problems accessing the Chatroom are more than likely the cause of your java software not being up to date or configured properly.
Test your installation here. Configuration checklist near the bottom of this page.
Or click here to download the latest version.
It's possible to set this latest version to automatically download the next release so you'll never be left behind again.
Testing Chat
Once you have your Java settings configured correctly, assuming you had a problem to begin with, you might like to test the chatroom to see if it works for you.
At the top of this page is a box which tells you who if anybody is currently in chat.
You'll need to go to one of the main pages to find the chat button located above the chat/messaging info box on the right hand side.
Click that and the chatroom should open up in the same window if everything is working.
The first time you log into chat in any session you might briefly get a message saying "An Error Has Occurred".
Ignore that, it does work. Wait for the Java symbol to finish its animation and you should be able to login.
Now the clever bit.
Bottom right of the chat window is a link wcich says "Open Text Links in...". Make sure that "New window" is selected and then under Forum navigation go to the homepage.
You should now see your name in the chat info box.
As a bonus, if you leave your sound turned on, you can now continue to surf the board and if anybody else joins the room, not only will you be able to see them in the info box but will hear "Welcome" as they login.
