Well, young James qualified 11th on the full BSB grid(1st privateer). Thats third row on the grid. Shakey Byrne one side & Scott Smart on the other.
Now thats a hell of an achievement given that 2 weeks ago he didnt even have a bike...just a blown up GSXR1000 & Michael Rutters Fireblade, minus forks, shock, brakes & wheels.
Having grafted the suspension, brakes & wheels from the Gixer onto the Blade he rode it last week to a 1st & a 3rd in the Superbike Cup. Finished both races scoring valuable points having done NO testing at all & using the first race to set the bike up.
And now,a week after he last rode it,to outqualify Scott Smart(& many other "stars")& ride within a 100th of a second to Shakey Byrne,is nothing short of sensational...
Lets remember here that the guy to the left is paid around £250000 a year to ride the Rizla & the team has a budget of around £3M a season. Scott Smart is also in a big bucks outfit.
James' budget...? £50000-including the price of the bike & secondhand tyres for practice.
They have 2 Mercedes Sprinter vans which they carry the bike in,work on it & cook & sleep in.
Id say that theres some big teams & names that should be very red faced right now...
Isnt it strange that in the Bike Racing stories next week,it wont be a story on how the little guy beat the big guys on a shoestring. It'll be a big story as to the problems that the "stars" had that caused thein under-achievement...and nothing about the REAL stars...
Like i said before. BSB stinks...
