'Transformed' Nakano fights for pole. Having been just 15th, 13th and 12th in the three free practice sessions - including a heavy fall - prior to qualifying, few expected Kawasaki's Shinya Nakano to be in pole position contention on Saturday afternoon in Germany.
However, the 28-year-old will start from fourth on the grid after his crew made significant changes to the rear suspension settings - to help aid rear traction - ahead of this afternoon's qualifying session. This, together with a switch to a different Bridgestone rear tyre, was credited as "transforming" the Japanese star's machine.
Whatever the cause, Nakano jumped to the top of the timesheet halfway through this afternoon's qualifying session, holding onto pole position until the final 15 minutes, when Casey Stoner knocked him from the top spot. Nakano retook pole with his next flying lap, but was knocked from the top spot once again with just three minutes left to run, this time by the man who will start tomorrow's race from pole position, Dani Pedrosa.
Fast laps by Nicky Hayden and Kenny Roberts in the dying moments then saw Nakano eventually pushed off the front row, but he was still the fastest Bridgestone rider - beating Ducati's Loris Capirossi by just 0.056secs.

Rossi was quite good, 10 lucky overtakes...... 11th on grid, promoted to 10th by Stoner's DNS.....wins race..... Genius Great battle between the two Repsol Honda's and some nice tyre marks on 'Lotsa teeth's' leathers....really enjoyed that Hope Hayden has started to pray, cos Vale's gonna reel him in race by race...... 10 lucky overtakes my ass.... Rossi is the DADDY and showed Pedrosa (who had a superior bike) that its all about TALENT and not being molly coddled in the top team ROSSI :win: ......... Pedrosa :fist:

Rossi rode a fantastic race on what is CLEARLY inferior machinery to the Hondas... I got a feeling that if all those Honda riders were on Yam M1's...they wouldnt have been NEAR the front. Rossi is just one step above all the others. Lucky for them he gives himself the challenge of riding an inferior bike...and he still manages to beat them all...amazing...a ledgend...and were licky enough to see it happening right now... Pedrosa? Yeah...we all hate him & want him to fail(i do anyway)...he just lacks experience...like Stoner. Both those boys are good, thats for sure.
