Why do you think Birmingham takes its water from Wales? There's a little bit of logic in there somewhere.
The bulk of the UKs rainfall is actually in the north of England. If Birmingham can pipe its water from Wales then it would make sense to implement, granted at considerable expense, a similar scheme for the south of England?

Nope, no hosepipe ban in the Midlands yet. There was one threatened last summer, but nothing happened. Thinking about the winter just gone, I don't think its been quite as wet as usual so maybe we'll also have problems come the Summer.

I could always fill the van with barrels of water and run them over to you at a small fee :broke: bigger fee if they put me on a meter

Why would they put you on a meter? You're the one with all the water.

Money money money they've done a scheme where all the house stop cocks on the street have been renewed as they have some " spare monies "and the old ones are dated ." worked perfectly" and the new ones just happen to be ready to accommodate a meter " which is convenient " ,so people have the choice Its only a matter of time before it becomes compulsory then they've gotcha by the walllet

I know the ones, they're called Boundary boxes. I once worked for Severn trent Water as a meter fitter. Those BB meters were never the preferred option, probably 'cos they're so easy to bypass. Anybody who's ever fitted one will know what I mean. They're also more expensive to fit, what with all the excavation required and beleive it or not, are more expensive to read than the internal meters. I've had one of those boundary Boxes outside Gremlin Towers for years and as far as I am aware, the idea of compulsory metering had been dropped. Something political but I can't remember what. That's partly the reason I no longer fit them. I've no doubt that some bugger will move the goalposts eventually though.

Down here in the deep south we have a little known water company called Portsmouth Water (original aint it), because all of our water falls onto Portsdown Hills and filters through the chalk into huge great underground lakes we have never had a hose pipe ban. However, our water is now being exported so this year for the first time I can remember we are gonna get one.

Us in the far sou'west are at the mercy of South West Water, with the largest bills in the land, just so we can have clean beaches for all the emmets. If the south east is facing a shortage its probably due to leaky pipes in the network. We get enough rain to cover what we need, so the water companies there should just put the prices up so the customer pays for the improvements. They've done it down ere so we can have clean beaches and no-one in government complained about it, so get those rich buggers in the south east to pay a bit more.

I pay more for water than gas and electric combined. I used uswitch for gas and electric, but don't think we have a choice when it comes to water
