It means you shouldn't be experiencing too much delay in downloading interenet pages either!

I guess it depends on what you expect to be getting and what you are paying for.
Service provider usually offer either 1, 2 or 8 Mbps (that's megabits per second) 8Mbps is the same as 1mb (one megabyte) per second.
Although they may quote you say 8Mbps connection speed, you will rarely get this in real life as it all depends on line quality and the number of people you are sharing the bandwidth with. Its not uncommon for a quoted 8Mbps speed to actually be 4Mbps.

To be honest because you are using a wireless Vodafone card, similar to teh 3G cards 3.6Mb is pretty good, it all depends on the cellular coverage

At home I'm lucky to get 18Kbps (right, that's "K") on the dial up that is currently available. :tumbleweed: :zzzz: Needless to say I don't venture into Jeff's pictoral essays on his trips round northern Ontario from home. Currently looking into a new, two way satellite service that offers 2Mbps download and .5Mbps upload speeds as an alternative. What with our satellite TV and an added Internet dish, the house is going to start looking like a broadcast centre!

Blimey, Rae, that must be terribly frustrating. 18kbps is next door to useless. Go for the satellite option , you won't know yourself

Its a real shocker going from work where I have high speed (T1 Supernet) access to what's available at home (one of the reasons I'm almost never on the forum on the weekends - job jar tasks and abysmal internet access ). My place is just far enough out from the urban areas that cable is not available and too far for DSL to work (besides the switching system is so archaic that itwouldn't work anyway. I had looked at satellite before, but you needed to be connected to a telephone line to upload (kinda defeated the whold purpose). This new service looks like a much better package. May have to just bite the bullet and sign up.
