That is a very fair point Badger and most of what you say is true. Fact is we don't have 400 members, we have 400 who have registered, there is a big difference. Don't insult our intelligence by claiming untruthes.
I'm not berating the management of this site in any way whatsoever but no way have we 400 members, or if we have then the vast proportion of them are mute.

As a new member that has been posting I guess I can add a comment or two that would add some value to this discussion.
I was asked to check this site out, and told that the atmosphere was very friendly. Ya sure, at first I "lurked", during which I was actually reading posts that were helping me with problems as apposed to bothering people to rewrite the wheel. As time went on I was convinced to start posting, and for good or ill I have placed comments while learning and laughing from the experience of others.
I think these sites are always held together by their gurus, and I think the core group here does a pretty good job making this place interesting. I have been more than thankful to those who have patiently lent their advice: I am sure that Jeff is more than happy my damned front wheel is fixed and that I bother him less these days, and that Snoopy hopes I do not require further advice on buying Hondas in the next week or so.
In the end I would say that this board offers something interesting. I log in after work just to see what crazy new tip Brakey has to share, or to read how folks think the new z1400 looks more like a childs toy than a motorcycle. When more serious issues arise I have been able to learn enough to tear my bike apart and bust my speedo housing while putting things back together. What more could I ask for?
At 35, all of my friends either have new kids, and therefore cannot buy bikes, or think I am crazy for buying one. I won't mention the look I get when they see and hear my REX, and watch me blasting around town. This bike has been a blast, but aside from this site I have very few who appreciate my new love and for that I again say thanks
Dale

Tis true, we have 400 registered users and around 40-50 members who don't lurk but post. Whatever the numbers we have a good core of people who have important input into this site and I am sure the OC have a similar core of people who have valuable input with like us lurkers who occassionally post. In essence if you enjoy posting get posting, sharing your opinions whether you think we like them or not etc. if you like to lurk in dark corners feel free to lurk and if you feel like coming out of the dark and posting or joining in on ride outs or meetings all are welcome. You will only get a small amount of abuse or laughed at for stupid questions (oh yeh thats me in the staff room). Well thats my opinion, take it or leave it or abuse it etc.

Yep, gotta go with Phoenix, on that we have 400 registered pep's on this site, of which around 30 visit and post quite regularly and 20 or so very regularly and the rest are very quiet.
I dont think thats a problem and generally its the same on every forum I am a member off. This is two other ZRX sites, two other general motorcycle sites and two rock group sites. On all of them five I would have to class myself under the very quiet list (as I devote most of my time to this site).
I think it is human nature, we all migrate to the forum where we can find the most like minded people, for me, these are the people I want to meet face to face at meets, spend the weekend with or just drop by for a cuppa tea (although Canada might be stretching the tea thing a little too far).
Grem with out a doubt pulled a blinder when he formed this forum, its run the way he wanted a forum to be run, its open, fun, the micky taking is micky taking and not pot shots (mostly).
In conclusion of all that, and what I was trying to say, is reguardless of size we are a success.
and anyway, can you imagine the headache if all four hundred registered members decided they all wanted in on the France trip.

Gawd, I always end up cringing when people start congratulating me on this site that I started. OK, it's nice to be congratulated but, ALL I did was start the site. Nothing more. I had no illusions from the outset that this site was going to be anything like successful, fully expecting it to be a flash in the pan that fizzled out to nothing in a matter of weeks if it even lasted that long. One promise I did make myself though was that I'd keep it running until the last person left. While somebody is getting some use/recreation/enjoyment out of the site it's worth keeping open as in some small way it's providing a service. Funnily enough, you're all still here. Not really sure what's made it the success it is, albeit a moderate success in comparison to other sites. I'm pretty sure I've been conspicuous by my own recent absence yet again which only serves to prove what I've said all along. I don't run this site, you do. Just curious Grem but how many of the 400 members have posted in the last 12 months or so. Oddly enough, that's one site statistic I've not been able to lay my hands on. If I ask for Members who have logged in in the last 365 days it generates a huge great long list that I really can't be bothered to count the number of. Admittedly, if I ask for a list of members who haven't logged in in a similar period a longer than expected list is generated but at least it doesn't run into pages like the first one. OK, so we do have a "hardcore" membership who post regularly but don't you get that on most sites?? It's simply that here, that hardcore membership just keeps the place warm. Nobody tries to be anything else other than themselves, no arguments, no power struggles, no problems. I often feel a little guilty for not finding and making the time to get on here regularly but the simple truth is, like any other members here I have a real life outside and in any case I know I'm welcome anytime. I've neglected posting on other sites I used to frequent and have found it very difficult, if not impossible to get back in again, feeling like a newbie or even a traitor in some cases. Here, I know I can walk back in, pull up a chair and simply pick up where I left off almost as if I were here yesterday. I'd like to think that other irregular posters feel equally welcome. It's something to do this warm friendly atmosphere we've you've created here. Gonna quit trying to analyse this site and enjoy it. I've recently learnt how to analyse things and I really ought to stop bringing my work home with me.
