Hi all, I'll possibly get a slating for this, but all I have owned is Suzuki's, I own at the moment an 03 Hayabusa and a 04 GSX-R 1000. But.......... I am selling the Hayabusa, and need something to replace it, I cover a vast amount of miles each year (Live in Cambridgeshire, work in Hampshire), so whatever I get need to be super-reliable. All maintenance and servicing will be done by myself. The bike will be used in all weathers, and I mean all weathers, sun, rain, hail, sleet and snow. Is the ZRX up to the job? Will it be able to cover 30,000 miles each year without fault? These questions and more can only be answered by you. Thanks for your time.

Hi Biff and welcome to the site. I'm sure you will get all the answers here that you need For sure the REX is eminently capable of high mileage. The engine is from a long line of Kawasakis and is virtually unburstable. However servicing is a MUST as with all machines and preventative maintenance is always a good idea. There are examples here that have done 60000 miles and still look inn showroom condition. perhaps i'm biased, but I reckopn you would be better off with an "S" 1200 rather than either an 1100 or 1200 "R". they're quicker and easier to ride at speed because of the excellent fairing with double headlight. These lights are probably the best I have ever used. I'm sure others will be along soon to add their two penn'orth

Hi biff and a very warm welcome to :uk: The ZRX will easily be capable of the high mileages you demand, if serviced and maintained properly. The 1200 has a detuned ZZR motor and although plenty powerful enough for all but the most suicidal riders is under less strain than the ZZR Winter riding on any Jap bike is potentially putting the pristine finish at risk but with care and attention, damage can be limited. There are members here that do use their bikes in all weathers and their bikes are still running without problems. I'm sure others will be along soon to add their 2p worth but in the meantime have a look around the site and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Hi Biff Welcome to the club I've had my bike for 9 months now (an R reg 1100R) and have ridden it every day of the working week ever since (40 miles round trip) so that works out at 900 miles a month. The bike hasn't missed a heartbeat in that time (apart from stone in rad). From Bath to Shepton over the Mendip hills too. Im not the most maintenance aware guy either, just oil, water, chain and tyres. Bike is due a full service soon though. I reckon if you have decent warm waterproofs then an R would do, but Burchy has a point about the larger faired S model being better, esp for sustained high speed commuting. My route is more of a scream, slow village, scream kind of route. Bike v You (I reckon you'll blink first) and your wrists will love you too

Hi Bif, and yet again Welcome to the sunny site of ZRXUK. Ive an S and being 2002 model it has done 35,000 now and ya i do ride it in ALL weathers. As with all the bikes ive owned, and i think most others, i wash it as soon as i get in after a rainy or snowy trip. I do the usual thinks myself (with a little help at times) oil, plugs, filters ect. and as you can see it still looks good, and it has never let me down.
