Mark, a guy I know at work, is a mad biker Young, shaven head, tall and someone you'd cross the road to avoid on looks alone ....but actually a diamond geezer Just got rid of his 'sterile' Honda CBR600RR (his own word there) and has purchased a new Yamaha FZ1 naked Fazer thou. Silver with blue frame, looks gorgeous Three days old and he visits a friends house Parks the new baby carefully on mates driveway so it's off the road. Time for a brew The rain stops and Mark says to mate, "come and take a look at my new beastie". They go through the house into the garage and his mate presses the button for the auto garage door to open outwards............ Mark said it was like slow motion :hair: He tried to shout but instead raced to the control panel, tried top stop the damn door but didn't know what to press...then managed a shout....just in time for the Fazer to be lifted off it's stand and despatched down the driveway.... :headbang: New parts needed include brake lever, brake pedal, bar end, the silencer heat shield (almost £200....what is it made of, TITANIUM??) and the total cost just for parts is £270!! Mark is still smiling, taking it all in his stride as his mate is paying in full in cash...and on the bike itself...he loves it.... MORAL OF THE STORY.... Don't park in front of automatic garage doors, even if they belong to your best mate...

:blx: there's always some new and inventive way of trashing your bike but I'd never have thought of that one. Very good of his mate to take responsibility and repair the damage though. Mates like that are few and far between.

That's a new one. I'm sitting here shuddering just imagining the "slo mo" happening. My garage doors open straight up but my daughter's place has the swing out and up type of door. Nothing worse than seeing a chain of events put into play that you know will end up very badly and not being able to do anything but watch it unfold. Suspect that his friend covering the cost ( ) has a fair amount to do with how well he is taking it.

Slightly off at a kilter here .....but a few years back a friend who I taught to ride ;D got a very nice condition Honda VT500E and used to ride up and down the private hedged row leading to his garage for fun as it was his first big bike He let a friend who 'used to be a biker' have a quick go down said hedged row.....friend promptly wheelied the beast by mistake and subsequently lobbed it at the scenery.....the damage was more than the value of the bike!! To this day, under no circumstances will I ever let a mate have a ride of my machine....and I won't ride anyone else's...just my decision.....Can I have a lend of yer Rex LIGHTSPEED when I'm next over in Canada.... ...I'll bring my own leathers....

:hmm: Looks like THIS LIST needs updating then. I'm sure I've experimented with a couple of slightly unorthodox 'get off' methods myself in the past that don't feature on that page.

People are finding more ingenius ways of dumping bikes, obviously the EU is trying its hardest with the new Euro 3 law ( I think) I totally :agreed: with Floog. I ahve no intention of letting anyone ride my SREX unless of course they paid me a huge wad of cash for the priviledge, by that I mean really HUUUUGE ;D

I think the stupidest way ive ever dropped a bike was in my teens(many years ago). I remember stopping on my Triumph Tiger 100 & as i went to put my foot down,it wouldnt go down as the kickstart had gone up my trouser leg! Over i went... Oh yeah...im on a roll now...i put the sidestant down on a CB750,not noticing the bike was over a slatted drain. . . You only do that one once. . . Ever noticed the big hook like grab handles on a VFR750? Well, they can hook your riding boot if it has straps on it when you swing your leg over . . . That one wasnt even my bike...

done that. done that too. and what makes it all the more embarrasing is the fact that the stand gets properly jammed in the drain making the bike next to impossible to pick up. :headbang: My all time favourite stupid manouver has got to be this one though. The steering lock on my old CM250 was a seperate item on the side of the headstock. To engage the lock the handlebars needed to be turned to the right. I'm parked between two cars on the High Street. On my return to the bike I spy a couple of fine examples of the local talent just down the road from me, so young Mr Cool here does his very best to impress. Casually climbed on the bike, doing my very best Peter Fonda impression, fired bike up, blipped the throttle a couple of times and pulled smoothly away into the traffic flow. Well, dear reader, have you spotted my mistake? Yup, correct. I'd forgotten that stupid steering lock So although I'd pulled nice and smoothly out of that parking space, as soon as I went to turn the bars the other way to cruise down the road (and impress the laydeez) I promptly and unceremoniously dumped the bike and myself in an untidy heap on the opposite side of the road. Not a good day for the Gremlin, local reputation now shot.

Should'nt that read " I stupidly forgot the streering lock" I know what I meant. By todays standards that's a stupid place to put a steering lock.
