Should I spend a fortune upgrading or do I just buy a 1200? Does anyone use a steering damper, can you recommend one. I'm looking at Scott's but not cheap!!

Welcome to ZRXUK Currently I do not have a s/damper on my 1100, although it had crossed my mind. Personally only ever used Ohlins, although they are all much the same for road bike useage

Setting the suspension (front and rear sag, compression turned down almost all the way on the forks and rebound turned up almost all the way). Rear shocks similar setting with compression at 2 and rebound at IIII. This will make the suspension much more compliant and keep the wheels on the ground. You will notice the difference right away. Another, more economical fork mod is the installation of a good fork brace. This will make a noticeable difference, especially on bumpy corners, where the front end will stay planted much better. Most run fine with these simple suspension set ups and no steering damper. If you want a damper, there are a number of kits available that adapt Suzuki GSXR steering damper pistons to the REX. They fit under the front triple clamps. Some bolt on and some require some welding of mounting tabs. They are generally $100-$150 and you can pick up used Suzuki dampers pistons fairly cheaply (like $25) on Ebay. Here is a link to Greg Couch's damper kit from the ZRXOA Greg Couch
