My bog standard ZRX400 seems to be getting hot. Yes, I know its summer but.........I dont recall it getting this hot last year.
It mainly does a short run to and from work of approx 12 miles with 10 stops (lights, junctions etc) By about mile 10 my legs are decidely warm and I'm doing John Wayne impressions to cool down.
I've checked the rad and the header bottle and both a fine with levels up to the max. The fan spins if I turn it manually with my fingers/screwdriver.
I started it last night and let it tick over. It was a coolish night for July and the fan did not start after about 10 mins running.
This would perhaps suggest either themostat, fan or fan switch. The bike still perform OK (at the moment).
Is there a known issue with the 400 cooling system / overheating?
Any pointers / ideas appreciated.
If it is a switch or thermostat anyone got a suggestion for source and or part numbers? Cheers

AS I recall, the 400 we had to ages to get to the fan coming on when just stood still. You can check that the fan works by shorting the 2 wires on the temperature sender on the left side of the radiator.
Thermostat is the same part as a ZZR600E 49054-1051 Fan sender unit is 27010-1202, again ZZR600

Yeah my 400 never really went on the fan much. I recall a charity ride around London with a few chaps on here on the hottest day of the summer a few years back and whilst big superbikes were spilling their guts everywhere, the little ol' baby rex just plodded along happily all day (but you know that already).
Good luck.
